I wrote about this about a year ago and how wasteful it is.
Like I said in that post, I’m all for public art, but I think it should be paid for through private funds. Why couldn’t the developers who are proposing and building Uptown on the Falls pony up for this project?
Russ Sorenson, an urban planner for the city, said the city requested proposals in late 2007 for an art-wall project to complement development of Phillips to the Falls and enliven the pedestrian experience on Phillips Avenue.
The $50,000 project was approved in August 2007 as part of the city’s Capital Improvement Plan for 2008-12, Sorenson said.
It’s like I mentioned yesterday on DWC, Munson has figured out that citizens don’t like taking out loans for WANTS, so he cleverly hides them in the CIP budget and whenever we NEED something, he forces the council to vote for a bond instead of making cuts.
And for the record, I do like the piece. I saw the scale models when they were presented to the council.
