huether

I think I am ‘friends’ with this guy on FACEBOOK, but didn’t really pay attention, I think Epp sent me the invite;

FROM Epp

Sioux Falls businessman Mike Huether will run for mayor of Sioux Falls in 2010.

Middle Border Sun has learned this from a source close to the Huether camp.

Mike is a Yankton native and one of the top officers at Premier Bankcard.

I’ll have more details as I learn them.

I think Mike is a tremendous person and will make a topnotch leader for Sioux Falls. With skills in leadership, managing large budgets and numbers of employees, economic development, and a rags to riches personal story, he is a transformational leader. He has brought and will bring people together to keep the community moving forward.

Click here if you would like to join the Facebook fan page I’ve assembled for Mike.

I should probably do a little research on Mike and read his Facebook page, so I’ll keep my opinion to myself for now. There is one thing that does concern me though, his association with Premier Bankcard, this could be more of a detriment to his campaign then a positive. We have enough former credit card company shucksters in city hall as it is (Munson, Rowenhorst). We don’t need to go down that road again. I’m just saying.

  1. I was thinking much the same thing. I think we have had enough of the big business types trying to direct the future of our city while pleasing their benefactors.

It is time we had a mayor (and city council) full of average citizens who have an honest desire to improve things for the populace rather than themselves or their campaign contributors.

  2. I partially agree. I don’t have a problem with businessmen serving, as long as they are serving the populace. But we know special interests run this city – so I guess it is just wishful thinking. I guess to me, it looks like Mike is looking for a new job before the ship sinks. Can’t imagine if First Premier closes it’s card side during Mike’s campaign, it will look good for him.

Trust me, there will be more special interest money thrown at this race then any in the history of Sioux Falls. My guess between all the council seats and mayor race it will reach between $1-$4 million.

I am going to try to keep on top of all the financial reports and track the money. This pay-to-play bullshit has to end in order to move this city forward in a common sense manner. I am all for progress – progress for all of us.

  3. I know Mike. City government is socialist and he believes in Democracy. He’ll be the candidate to repeal Home Rule. Best place to restore citizen rights is fire everyone in the city attorney’s office.

  4. Oh, I have a feeling pink slips will be handed out like candy the first day of the new administration. I hope Jodi has been contributing to a savings account.

  5. Why would you really need to do any research on this guy l3wis? His association with first premier bankcard says it all. You are what you associate yourself with, so Huether is a scam artist. Why Epp would stick his neck out for a snakeoil salesman is beyond me.

Here’s how a First Premier credit card works.

    Credit limit $250
    Program Fee -$95
    Account Setup Fee -$29
    Participation Fee -$6 per month
    Annual Fee -$48 per year

Total Usable Credit $72, before first purchase is made.

It’s called Fee Harvesting. More here.

Even if he didn’t work for them, there is about 4-5 other candidates that will probably be running that are more qualified. I have a feeling not all of these candidates are going to make it to the finish line.

  7. Has anyone heard whether or not knobe has his sights back on his old job? I do not agree with him on a number of issues, based on political ranting he does on his “show”. Have not listened to that show since Randy McDanials left, but I suspect he has not changed much. That being said, if I had to choose between knobe and huether, I’d vote for knobe. What a sad statement that is. I will never vote for anyone who makes his living preying off the old and young like first premier does.

Say 10 people throw their hat in the ring. Is there a general election, then the two highest vote getters have a runoff? I’m not sure. How will that work?

  8. I think Knobe will milk his radio show as long as possible before announcing, because once he announces he will have to quit the show.

There can be as many candidates as possible, but yes there is usually a runoff between the top two. If one candidate doesn’t get at least 51% of the vote in the regular election, there is a runoff. And with 20 people running, you can bet there will be a runoff.

  9. I knew Mike back in the 1990’s in San Antonio — he helped guide my future career by giving me my first promotion.

I have always thought of him as an honest, straight-shooting nice guy. I wish him the best of luck!

  10. I don’t think I could support a person who made his money by ripping people off by issuing credit cards with a $250 limit and charges $175 in processing fees. Just don’t think I could trust someone who believe that is good business.
