Mayor Subprime doing what he does best; blabbing.

I found this story and video a little odd considering our mayor has time to do press conferences about a building demolition. Of course, this probably shouldn’t surprise me, considering he makes a political speech any chance he gets;

“This is where they’d stay when they would go to the State A’s or State B’s. It was a hot bed and I think that’s what David is planning to turn it into in the future,” Mayor Mike Huether said.

It was a hotel. Big deal. And this comment in the AL story scares me even more;

“Sometimes in code enforcement you get people who won’t respond, they don’t want to be a good neighbor, they want to take advantage of the system,” Huether said. “We are going to take this code enforcement, and we are going to take it to a new level, we are. Folks, if you’re not going to be a good neighbor, you need to find a new place to live.”

We need LESS code enforcement not MORE. Taxpayers would prefer their money be spent on services to them not on legal fees.

You’d think he would rather be hanging out with these guys;

  1. Per recent constitutional lawsuits, the city has no authority. Per Home Rule Charter they can fine up to $600 but not collect or lien and not arrest you (without a judge).

    They need the courts but can’t take you there because NEITHER party can appeal.

    I’ve said it before; pay no fines, fees, or permits. They’re stagnant wanna-be-vicious chihuahas on a very short leash. If you pay anything, it’s an admission of guilt and the only way they can get you.

  2. funny thing about this picture–i work for a union company, and heuther came to my work place telling us what good friends he was with managment. he didn’t mention the union at all!

  3. He probably doesn’t know what a union is. He surely didn’t allow one to be formed for customer service reps in the CC industry in SF. Did he?

  4. Mike didn’t show up due to the razing, he showed up due to the announcement of the development that will happen at that same location.

    People have been complaining about the Oaks for almost two years ever since it closed. The previous administration just ignored it because they didn’t want to talk about businesses that closed and only showed up to ribbon cuttings.

    That hotel attracts vandals and homeless drifters who have broken in and essentially lived there. They have had to kick people out of that place dozens of times and it is probably a lawsuit waiting to happen since the entire building is full of mold.

    From what I understand Mike made a call and spurred the owner to action. Maybe that is just him taking credit for what was already going to happen, but either way this is the exact type of development everyone has been asking for… so it seems silly to whine about him endorsing it.

    As to his comments about code enforcement – taking it “to a new level” doesn’t automatically suggest MORE code enforcement. It very well may simply mean fixing the system and ensuring people are held accountable for the messes they create. Perhaps instead of jumping to conclusions about what it means you could ask him to clarify his statements.

    But then again that might not give you anything to complain about… and we wouldn’t want that.

    That’s the impression that I got. Maybe it’ll get fixed and we’ll have a system that works.

  6. Don’t count on fixing code enforcement. The unqualified twice before terminated code enforcement goon (aka night club bouncer) still works there.

    Unions; he may not side with them but used the police union to make an ethics complaint against Staggers that was withdrawn just after the election.

    Sly unethical tricks and a lot of self (mafia) money makes you Pharoah of Sioux Falls.

  7. Commemorating the Sunbird Lounge:

    ‘Dark corner sex booths and $100 breakfasts that made Deadwood’s Purple Door sound sunny’

  8. Yeah, someone on the AL board wrote about how great the Sunbird was in the day. LMAO. I only went there to humor myself and have the $1 taco bar on occassion.

    Cost, GoD – I somewhat agree with you, maybe he does want to clean up code enforcement, but I doubt it, this coming from a man who said during the campaign that he wants ‘more regulation’ – he is a Democrat after all.
