I thought I would remind everyone with First Friday happening today that Downtown Sioux Falls still exists and all of your favorite bars, restaurants and shops are also still there.
I know that there was a fear for awhile that after Former Mayor Coors Light & Olives left city hall that Downtown Sioux Falls would suffer and close down. Somehow the TenHaken Administration has figured out how to keep the lights on Downtown.
I attempted to contact city hall for comment about what they are ‘doing right’ to keep Downtown going and I got this in response;
“Lloyd Companies are great!”
Since ’64, the downtown area has never been the same; that’s when Sears pulled out and moved to their new East 10th Street location…
#What?NoSears?
As a resident and lover of downtown SF, I smile every time I get to show someone a restaurant or store downtown. I smile whenever I see someone with 44 plates negotiating the parking ramp, because they are willing to get out of their comfort zone and explore something new. Kristi’s categorization of downtown as an unsafe place was inaccurate and scares people away from what should be a Mecca for entertainment. Definitely need to resurrect Sears, VSG😉
Rachel,
“Definitely,” the loss of Sears is like losing the bee population on this planet….. Where’s a guy suppose to buy his tools now? Because some of us have “tool bags,” you know?…. 😉
And if my memory serves me right also, Sears & Robuck started out in Minnesota by a guy who sold mail order watches; and this guy was originally from the Watertown, SD area, too…. Thus, its a lost South Dakota institution; but at least we still have Sanford and our current tools and “tool bags” too…..
