In a daring attempt to bring back Direct TV coverage to a local TV station, the station has changed it’s name to ‘DirectTVland’.

“We have always been known as Stormland TV, but there is more to life than just storms and hospital advertising, so in attempt to entice Direct TV back, we felt it was the right thing to do,” said GM Kay Hosingjob.

We wondered why Direct TV decided to drop coverage.

Hosingjob simply answered, “Because they are jerks.”

We asked a competing TV station why they thought Direct TV dropped them.

“While they are chasing hospitals and storms we concentrate on what is important,” said GM Dave Phoodtruck with KFLY TV “like what small town makes the best sliders in South Dakota.”

  1. The CW channel was once also off air from Direct TV but they succumbed. Direct TV was acquired by AT&T a few years ago and is sold at their stores. It was a bad acquisition and they’re trying to keep it solvent with higher fees to broadcasters. They tried squeezing more out of subscribers but it was an epic fail. They had to revert to old pricing but made it look like a special one time discount.

We are to far north for reliable satellite TV. A dish must look low toward the geostationary satellite at the equator. Reception is blocked for many circumstances. It’s more transmission distance so there’s lots of outage from storms attenuation. South Dakota wind often blows a TV dish out of signal alignment.

A better recourse is buried coax cable into your home. Also, the $20 baton thing behind your TV gives you 19 channels without a monthly fee and you get KELO.

  2. I thought they had changed their name to Brewery Land, as they are nightly pushing a new brewery, as if we were all alcoholics or encouraging us to become one!

  3. BL,

    Isn’t that something?

Whenever TV stations are up for a FCC license renewal, the stations always do public service pieces encouraging the public to comment on their work to the FCC. Perhaps, this “binge coverage” should be mentioned to the FCC.

I don’t believe in censorship, but for a town that builds bigger and bigger jails, because of drug and alcohol consumption, then why does the fourth estate then turn around and continue to promote more drinking, while also covering rising crime and rising taxes to build more jails? I mean, how is all of that an overall public service?

You know, we know the health care systems in this town own the TV stations, but maybe the construction companies do too.

(“I think the Bunker Ramp with some strong windows could make a great jail.”)

  4. DirectV should not let them back on unless they drop the “kelo-land”/geography nonsense.

  5. I heard the stickler involves Doppler2000 and Doppler Dorothy.

DirectTV wants them to bring those two things back to increase viewership, especially in the Spencer area.
