2008

This little Piggy . . .

The Honorable Mike Rounds
Governor, State of South Dakota
500 E. Capitol Avenue
Pierre, South Dakota 57501

Dear Governor Rounds:

At the South Dakota Peace & Justice Center board meeting on May 10, 2008, it was decided to provide the Yankton Sioux Tribal Council, the Yankton Sioux Tribe, and the citizens of Charles Mix County with our complete support regarding their opposition to the Longview Farms hog factory.  Please find attached the letter of support.

As the Executive Board of the South Dakota Peace and Justice Center, we believe it is important for the citizens of South Dakota to respect the sovereign nation of the Yankton Sioux Tribe and to speak out concerning this infringement on their constitutional right to peaceful demonstration, to protect the health and well being of their family members, and to protect the air and water of their community.

Executive Board Members,
Rosalie Little Thunder, President
Linda Edel, Vice-President
Susan Thompson, Secretary
Andrew L’Amour, Treasurer
Norma Wilson, At-Large
Deb McIntyre, Executive Director

The Sky is Falling, the Sky is Falling.

The anti-global warming meteorologists are at it again, hyping the weather. I know it is scientifically possible to predict severe storms 12 hours in advance, but when you are saying crap like “There will probably be tornadoes tonight.” that’s a little extreme. I could just hear an elderly couple after watching that on TV; “Merle, we better put the small color TV down in the basement tonight in my sewing room and watch the weather from there. I’ll make sure I fill a couple of milk-jugs with some water and bring a couple of jars of preserves down to in case we get trapped.”

SouthDacola Music Club

Okay, it’s been awhile for the music club. Even though I finally found my Hank Williams Sr. greatest hits CD, and have been singing along way too much lately, I will admit I’m a huge fan of this band. Consisting of members from the Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal are a hard-rock, techno dance band. They are hard to explain, but fun to dance or exercise to.
