If they move me one more freaking time, I’m really gonna be pissed

I was looking for a website this morning and stumbled across the Sioux Falls wiki site, this made me laugh;

In 2006, Men’s Health Magazine ranked Sioux Falls as the 93rd Angriest City in the Nation, out of 100 cities studied in the survey.

And this made me cry

Income

The median income for a household in 1999 in the city is $41,221; in 2003 HUD reported Minnehaha County had a median household income of $45,872, while Lincoln County had a median household income of $59,571. The median income for a family was $51,516 in 1999; in 2005 HUD reported that amount as $56,150. Males have a median income of $32,216 versus $24,861 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,374. 8.4% of the population and 5.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.3% of those under the age of 18 and 7.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

I guess we all can’t live in a house with a 4-stall garage, with a heated floor (WTF?) that has 4-bedrooms, all complete with there own washer and dryer and a 14 ft. long kitchen island like councilor Greg Jamison does (see today’s Argus Leader’s City Style Magazine). Can you say, ‘Out of Touch’

7 Thoughts on “This should make Angry Guy less angry . . . maybe

The thing that still cracks my shit up 25 different ways is that community “leaders” can’t figure out why people leave the state when they graduate from college….

You can have all the Ribfests and Jazzfests and Bret Michaels buttfuckfests all you want. You can have every chain store and find God in a town where the wind never dies down. You can ride Harley’s and play soccer all fuckin day if you want. Have fun. If the wages stink, we’re outta here–and I’m taking my Sneakies and Riverdales shirts with me.

Now if I could just find a dirt track within driving distance…….

Your link did not work out so well for me l3wis. Try this one.

Here is my favorite source for all things about Sioux Falls and SD wages.

    http://www.state.sd.us/applications/ld54lmicinfo/WAGES/OWLISTPUBA.ASP

It’s kinda hard to navigate around it til you get used to it. The page I like to reference the most is by clicking on “Sioux Falls” in the left panel, “All Occupations” in the center panel, then click twice on the “workers” button. There the whole sickening story of Sioux Falls wages is played out. For instance.

There are 27,380 Office Support Occupations in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $12.49.

There are 15,040 Sales Occupations in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $12.02.

There are 11,910 Food Preparation Occupations in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $8.22.

There are 9,750 Material Moving Occupations in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $12.28

There are 9,610 Production Occupations in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $13.08

There are 5,480 Customer Service Representatives in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $12.02

There are 5,250 Retail Salespersons in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $9.50

There are 4,330 Building Maintenance Occupations in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $10.46

There are 3,750 Personal Care and Service Occupations in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $10.16

There are 3,180 Healthcare Support Occupations in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $11.90

There are 2,940 Cashiers in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $8.78

There are 2,730 Bookkeeping Accounting and Auditing clerks in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $12.91

There are 2,420 Freight Stock and Material Movers in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $10.87

There are 2,360 Janitors in SF where the 50th percentile wage is LESS than $10.29

  5. Not sure how someone could live off of $8-11 an hour, especially with kids. In order to qualify for poverty level with the school district FREE lunch program you have to be a family of 6 making under $30,000 a year.

What’s even better is that the “low cost of living” argument is a sham. It isn’t a whole lot cheaper to live here than it is any other small city. Sure, there’s no income tax, but we pay sales tax on just about everything but advertising (hmmm…). Our property taxes aren’t any lower than anywhere else, our food/clothing/entertainment isn’t any cheaper, and the cost of transportation is comparable to everywhere else. The only thing cheaper here is housing, but how many people can afford a home on $12/hour?
Unless you’re well-connected, or don’t mind working in a cube farm witha phone attached to your head for a few years, this is a really crappy place to be a college graduate.
Added to that is the old mid-western sentiment that “we don’t need no fancy booklearnin'”. In other words, we’re telling our brightest people “we don’t want you unless you’re willing to work in jobs for which you’re vastly over-qualified for wages you could probably have earned with a HS diploma”. This would explain why I’ve run into a total of six of my HS classmates from WHS who went to college elsewhere and came back.

  7. What shocks me is the $7,000 a year wage gap between men and women, it’s so true.

As for the retail taxes, De Knudson was bitching about catalog/internet sales at the info meeting the other night and how we may be losing revenue because of that. You are right De, maybe you should convince your husband to introduce income tax legislation so people like you and Greg Jamison will pay their fair share for once.
