While most people spend their days slamming KSFY for their FOX like news coverage I have often accused KELO of being apologists to government, especially conservative views, this couldn’t be more obvious today when KELO and the Argus both did stories about the open records bill. KELO of course got the governor’s view and his only, which was so damn rosy you thought your were a delivery driver for a florist on Valentine’s Day after reading it;
Governor Mike Rounds said he’s pleased with the compromise opens record bill passed by the Legislature, and is inclined to sign it.
Supporters said the bill strikes a balance between opening public records and protecting the private information that some agencies hold about people.
Ah, yeah, sure. But that is not what the Argus is saying, which received ACTUAL quotes from ACTUAL legislators;
“It’s better than nothing. Unfortunately, it may be close to nothing,” Senate Minority Leader Scott Heidepriem said.
“I can’t help but wondering if that exception doesn’t come close to swallowing up the rule with regard to many things,” Turbak Berry said.
But Turbak Berry worries that South Dakotans now will think the open-records issue is closed.
“The problem is in future years, it is probably going to be much harder to generate widespread support or to put pressure on the governor” to amend the law, she said.
So of course, there really isn’t an open records bill. I sometimes wonder why legislators even bother farting around with this governor? What’s the point in passing a bill that has no teeth? That is one thing we are good at in South Dakota, being extremely vague and wishy-washy.
This certainly wouldn’t be the first time KELO has blatantly ignored the other side of a story. Apparently their reporters missed that class in journalism 101…. either that or they just think they’re above 2 sides to every story.
I cannot stand what has happened over at KSFY with all the sensational crap going on there… but KELO and it’s ego is still worse.
I noticed it was an AP story, still doesn’t change the fact that someone from KELO could have got on the horn and did a real story about it. I knew this legislation was f’ckd from the beginning when the sponsor was Dave Knudson. Smoke and Mirrors, that’s all it is.
All of our local television stations are a joke. The only thing they really care about is their super secret improved laser guided megatronic live doppler radar 3000 with HD!
However that cheesy “get in on the action with the action news” jingle and the Wheel of friggin’ Justice that KSFY relies upon are the silliest things in town by far. If I worked there I would honestly be ashamed because instead of looking like they are a serious news organization they instead remind me of a junior high school production… only slightly less polished.
Another thing – both KSFY and KDLT need to hire a real web design company because their websites are horrid. They look like somebody put those websites together using a combination of Microsoft Word and MS Paint.
Say what you will about KELO, but at least they have a clean website that isn’t a nightmare to navigate.
Yeah, KELO’s site is pretty nice, and do agree ‘clean’ is a good word. However the editing software we use to blog on it goes thru too many steps and is pretty time consuming.
The SD media has always been happy news all the time. The academics at the university journalism departments share the blame for never taking the SD media to task. Thank goodness we have a blogsphere that attempts to balance the information field.

Loved you in Breaking Away!
Anyhoo, I love KSFY’s Wheel of Felons. It’s like waiting for the weekly car/train accident to occur in your living room.
