Seriously though… I was reading the CDC’s website on Captain Porky (that’s what I’m calling this harbringer of doom, do you think it will catch on?), and I noticed that you can follow the outbreak on Twitter.

I got an automated call from the SF School Super Pam Homan last night about the dangers of Swine Flu and what I could do to prevent it.
I wonder how many parents got that call last night?

They only wanted you to think it was an automated call. In reality, you were the only callee. The CDC will probably set up a tent around your house and quarentine you inside it.

Almost ready for swine flu or zombies.
I keep an aluminum bat and a .22 rimfire (I can use the same ammo as my pistol that way, and it’s cheap) handy – you can never be too careful.
.22 doesn’t take a head off like a 12 Ga.
Instead of an aluminum bat, I have a cricket bat and a machete.
Ah, but a .22 rimfire bullet will pierce one side of the skull and then bounce around inside – thus destroying the brain. The KGB used them all the time for that reason.
a .22 also has a higher probability of ricocheting off of the skull. OOO buckshot tends to not ricochet.
On an interesting note, a ‘friend’ of mine showed me his new hand cannon the other night. The Targus Judge .45/.410 revolver. Perfect sidearm for the coming zombie apocalypse.
You guys are stereotyping zombies as if they are all bad. Come on… give the zombies a little respect please.

It does, but it’s also loud and rather un-economical. A .22 can be silenced fairly easily with common houshold items. That way, you can dispatch the odd zombie or small group of zombies without attracting the attention of every other zombie within two miles. At ranges of less than 60 meters, you don’t have to worry about ricochets off the skull – especially if you aim for the eyes and nose.
.22 rounds are also about $10 for a box of 500. Last I looked, buckshot was about $1/shell.
If you want to do long-range sniping, I suggest a .223 carbine like a Mini-14 or an AR-15. Both are excellent weapons, if a bit complex to take apart and clean. If you can find a bolt-action .223, it would be an easier weapon to maintain.
I’ll only need my firearm to get me to walmart and help me clean the place out. After that, I’ll need something to keep all you other people out.
