Maybe all you hipster mac douches would shut up about how great your Macs are…
But we all know it is just hype being generated by the AV companies to drive up sales through fear and ignorance.

OK. I shouldn’t bitch too much. I make PLENTY of money preying on people’s PC fears.
Are you trying to turn this into an internets technology nerd site? If you want to talk about virusses, the googles and tubes, go become a contributor on Todd Epp’s site.
Someone once said when you swing a hammer you always hit the tallest nail, and I think that sums up the PC vs. Mac debate when it comes to viruses.
Macs will always be a little less prone to viruses and malware simply because the people writing malicious code focus their attacks where they can do the most damage. Rest assured if Macs start eating away a large share of the market they will be targeted even more.
Same holds true for any alternative (Linux for example).
That said, I personally have seen an increase in malware over the past year to the point where it is getting obscene. I imagine the repair shops and AV companies love it, but it costs users and businesses billions each year in lost productivity and repair costs.
I think we should treat virus and malware authors as violent criminals because what they do inflicts more pain to the masses than any small time thug ever has. Minimum penalty if caught is 50 years in maximum security as well as forfeiture of all assets.
That’s all fine and dandy until you consider how many of the spammers and malware creators live outside the US and are nearly impossible to effectively track down.
I think we should put longer sentences on white collar financial crooks. I also think there should be long sentences for CEO’s that knowingly hire illegals. I stopped eating at Inca’s ever since that guy got a slap on the wrist for it. I’m all for immigrants coming here . . . legally.

Sounds like you took a page out of the “War on Drugs” ridiculous sentencing handbook.
Thanks for the heads up. After 20+ years of PC’s getting all the viruses, I guess it was about time the same would happen to Macs.

Yeah, I decided to go Mac this year and am typing this comment on my sweeeeeeet, cool, light, MacBook. The day I finally took the plunge and got the MacBook, heard the news about the worm. I’d still rather have a Mac than Vista.
I hate all of you, my Mac is going on 8 years old at home. At least I have a nice sooped up Dell at work.
My PC was purchased from one of our local computer shops who builds them from parts. No crappy bloatware, no useless programs running in the background, and no Vista. It runs fast and crap-free.
It also cost about $400 less than a comparable model at Best Buy.
I’m curious, do we have any Ubuntu fanboys who visit this site?

DUH! I’d rather have a Lotus Esprit than a Chrysler minivan.
The Vista hype was overblown by the MSM, and there isn’t anything wrong with the business versions of Vista that one half stoned IT guy couldn’t fix by running windows update. Your average close minded stubborn end user will feel disoriented for the first week after switching to ANY new operating system, but eventually most of them will acclimate. Microsoft has ALWAYS shipped products long before their engineers have a chance to work out the major bugs. But it stimulates the economy to ship faulty products. If MS shipped a perfect OS like Apple, our economy would crumble and we’d all be banging rocks together for communication within a year. Ever had to call Apple support? I don’t know anyone who has.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t like a Mac to do my photoshop and itunes on, but I can already do all of that stuff on my POS HP at home. I have more need for performance and storage expandability than for that warm fuzzy feeling I get when I power on a Mac… “CHUUUMMMM!”
AG- I like your van.
I run a virtual machine that has Ubuntu as the OS. It’s a browser appliance that plugs into VMWare’s Virtual Appliance Player.
It can be a little clunky and is a potential memory hog, but it’s free and totally nerdy.
I make my kid use it when he’s online so he doesn’t clog my PC with Malware from playing stupid video games online.
Sounds like you took a page out of the “War on Drugs†ridiculous sentencing handbook.
The difference is the “War on Drugs” penalizes the users at idiotic levels instead of the creators/distributors.
I have zero problems with putting some lowlife in prison for 20 years because they were running a meth lab or smuggling 50 kilos of cocaine into the state, but I don’t think it is necessary to lock up someone for smoking some weed either.
If you can think of a better way to punish those who write malware I’m all ears, but what is the alternative? 90 days in jail an a $1000 fine doesn’t really instill fear, and I’m not a huge proponent of capital punishment even if there are times I want to kill those ah’s.
You know, Costner, I think we actually agree on this one.
I have a feeling we might agree on alot of shit, I’m just too busy being a snarky asshole to admit it most of the time.
Screw that – if we agree on anything it just means I need to change my opinion.
See – I can be a snarky asshole too.
If you can think of a better way to punish those who write malware I’m all ears, but what is the alternative?
Take them outside on a sunny day, hose the cheeto dust off of them, and expose their bare skin to the sunlight.
At least it would be entertaining.
That reminds me of a scene from I Am Legend. I wonder if those zombies were really just the future of IT nerds.
