A public vote on whether to finance a new events center in Sioux Falls probably will be held during the 2010 general election, two Sioux Falls city councilors say.

The council will budget about $3,000 to pay for the expenses associated with printing ballots should the issue go to voters.
“The idea is to get the most citizens to weigh in on it,” Councilor Pat Costello said.
Weigh in on what? It is a complete mystery what the EC task force is doing. Heck, the SF School board doesn’t even know.
Funny thing is, they did a study years ago that told them the best possible location was on the east side of the river downtown. That study cost the taxpayers a lot of money, but the city decided to ignore it in favor of pushing a clone of the Fargodome at HWF. Now they’ve rethought that and are completely in limbo with the whole thing.
Kinda looks like the Monkeys on the Task force has been borrowing the city’s football? Huh?
I had Staggers ask the city how much money is being spent on consulting fees for the Task Force yesterday during the informational and Costello basically acted like he didn’t know or has gotten price. So I guess FREE. Yeah right.
My guess?
Another consultant or two… couple more lawyers…
I think the location for the new stadium is Kelby’s back yard.

I find it ironic that if a city doesn’t even know what they are spending on consulting fees for just a EC Task force how will they determine how much we will pay for actually building the facility?
Easy. Consultants will tell them.
Wonder if they will hire the same consultants that said the $40 million dollar Pavilion would cost us only $21 million at the most.
Watch the $100 million dollar EC turn into the $200 million dollar EC, even though voters will be told it will only cost us $100 million and some change. I see another boondoggle down the pipe.
How is the task force paying for the consulting work going on currently? The Winkel’s Group is “staffing” the task force. The tf brought in a consultantant that said the majic number is 200,000 sg ft of flat floor space. There is another “national expert” being paid to determine if 200 is the number.
Where is all the money coming from? And how much?
Consulting is a great gig if you can get it.
The whole task force idea is stupid. It seems to be made up of people who probably couldn’t get out of jury duty and are all too happy with our current suburban sprawl.
John – Petty Cash to the city. They’ll incorporate super precints to save the city a whopping $16,000 while they have a 3.5% voter turnout but drop 50 grand to have someone tell the city that the windows put on the Pavilion in the 20’s were definately ‘Historical’. No shit Sherlock? You mean they weren’t using vinyl energy efficient windows back then? Get out!
