5 Thoughts on “Sioux Falls to build another multi-use facility?

You know I’ve actually said for years that they should sell that land for a quarry. The quartize unter there is worth far more than the shacks sitting on top, and most of the structures built there are in need of replacing or extensive remodeling anyway.

Seems to me it would make sense to build new fairgrounds next to a new events center so we can fully utilize the space. We all know a separate fairgrounds wills struggle to fill their space and turn a profit, and we know the same will be true for an Events Center (since the Arena has a hard enough time as it is).

Why not combine forces and build a true multi-use structure that can be used throughout the year for a variety of different events?

It just makes too much sense for our county and city to work it out I suppose.

I agree with a combination facility, but like a commented last week, getting the County and City (and the state legislature for that matter) to work together on a project like that would take 50 years for a consensus. They can’t even agree on a homeless shelter. But like I said, great idea.

Secondly, the Fairgrounds ARE profitable. In fact the SE Fair is one the last fairs in the state that makes money. But when you have someone stealing almost $100,000 a year out of the kitty it doesn’t help the bottom line.

Oh don’t get me wrong I know the Fair itself is profitable, but they have a tough time making ends meet the rest of the year and are forced to raise money via camping fees and Billion dragging all their cars to the parking lot.

Although the theft of a $100k a year hurts them, they would be struggling even without it. They never have enough money to repair or replace structures as they age and there is no rainy day fund so when they have a bad year or when weather ruins the Fair for a few days, they would barely have enough money to stay afloat.

It just seems time they considered their options, and working together with the city is a no brainer. They might even be able to sell the land they own and be able to build new modern facilities next to an Events Center that would be even more successful and bring in major events more than just the one week a year.

Of course Billion will be disappointed that they can’t have their cars parked there two weeks per month all summer… but I think they will get over it.

Ahhm, it would appear she stole in excess of $250k per year – and the investigators said they still have yet to find the bottom of it. Three cheers for “local control”.

Yeah, would have been different if she only stole like 10 K a year or she stole 250 K once. Obvioulsy alot of people were asleep at the wheel. I think the fairboard needs to be charged with criminal neglect.
