Finally. A use for a Thomas Kincade painting. I nominate Terry Redlin’s work next.

Don’t give his son any more ideas. Do you think Terry Redlin Elementary would get FREE rolls?

At what point does an artist become too mainstream to really be considered talented in your eyes lewis?

I might not have any of Redlin’s art in my home (frankly it seems a little cliche in this part of the country as every other house seems to have a half dozen of them) but I imagine if he would only selling 20 or 30 paintings a year he probably would be much more respected.

Say what you will about his stuff, but I have to admit the man has a lot of talent. I suppose Kincade is the same, although I don’t care for most of his stuff either.

Talent… maybe. His real strength is his business acumen – something most artists lack.
His work has a large market (midwestern Christians), and he knows exactly how to pander to it.
I personally consider his and Redlin’s work to be kitschy decorations than art. As much as I love American landscape art (paintings, drawings, and photography), I can’t say I like Redlin or Kinkade.

That and Redlin hasn’t sold an original in years. He is also no longer painting. Rumor has it he has a ‘senior disease’ – I will leave it at that.
