There could be a shakeup in the Senate;
“Massachusetts law requires a special election to determine who’ll occupy a Senate seat if the Senator leaves before the term was up. (The law was enacted during Democratic Sen. John Kerry’s run for president in 2004 out of fear Republican Governor Mitt Romney would appoint a GOPer to Kerry’s seat should he become president.)”
Just goes to show when parties who are in control abuse their power, it almost always comes back to bite them in the ass.
Bye bye Democratic 60 seat majority. This may also be the end of healthcare reform as well since I’m doubting they can get any Republicans to support the idea and the special election to replace Kennedy is obviously going to take some time.
I have to give some respect for a man who proudly stood as a liberal even through times when that was a dirty word. I may not have agreed with much of his agenda, but he at least stood by it without pretending to be something politically that he wasn’t.
I have great respect for Kennedy and his family, but like Dude I agreed with very little of it.
Like MJ, we need to look at the good along with the bad of the man’s life. Although I think Kennedy truly did want to make a difference for the underpriviledged of Society, the Agenda and tactics of today’s Democrat Party bears very little resemblence to JFK and what he stood for.
Just consider arguably JFK’s most famous quote; “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country.”
Does that in any way sound like it could come from the lips of a Democrat leader these days?

Actually, it does. The two parties just have different ideas of what doing something for your country means.

Sure as hell would never come from a republicans mouth.
“Under current law, a special election could not take place until at least 145 days after a Senate seat opens, in this case, mid-January. Mr. Kennedy’s proposal would let Mr. Patrick, a Democrat, appoint a temporary replacement sooner.”
