I found this post on Hog House Blog not surprising. I have often said the SD GOP talking point “We are a conservative state.” was total bullshit, and this proves it;
After polling from January-June, Gallup now lists South Dakota as “Leans Democratic,†one step away from full-on blueness.
While it is nice to see that a majority of South Dakotans are not Republican, I don’t think this is a sign they are Democratic either. I think a majority of South Dakota voters are moderates, this was proven when they voted the abortion ban down twice. I think it is time for SD moderate independents to rise up and become a legitimate political movement in SD, it would start with a solid candidate running in the governor race. I am still holding my breath and hoping Chris Nelson will register indy and run for governor, while I do think he would have a good chance of giving Herseth a run for her money, he can’t beat her. But I think as a indy in the Governor race he could kick ass, I also think he could win handily as an indy.
I think Americans and South Dakotans are fed up with the political parties and their constant bullshit. It is time for indies to stand up and be heard.
Councilors Litz and Staggers had a protest vote against FEMA’s floodplain maps at Monday night’s council meeting, they knew it would pass without their votes but were basically telling Washington they didn’t approve of the way this matter was handled. The city was forced to accept this map. I sent this email to Staggers and Litz shortly after the vote, Litz was the only one to respond, I found what he had to say, interesting to say the least;
Kermit-
I applaud you and councilor Litz for voting against the floodplain map, I have been saying all along it is bogus (or something like that).
Scott L. Ehrisman
LITZ: One federal agency , the Corps is told by another federal agency FEMA they didn’t get the job done so if your house is insured in part by another federal agency HUD you must buy insurance from another federal agency. Kafka couldn’t have done it better. The trouble is the comedy of errors involves real peoples money…..blitz
ME: I do understand that the council had to vote for this (forced) but I still wish there would have been more vocal protest. I will have to say, that for once I am not disappointed in city government on this one, I am disappointed in our Washington delegation in not doing more, your hands were tied.
Good luck, Scott
LITZ: We are powerless against our Federal Government…blitz
ME: Really? Dissent is a powerful thing. It created this country.
I think this program has been highly successful and should be continued, and it looks like it will be;
WASHINGTON (CNN) — The Senate will okay new funding for the “cash for clunkers” program before leaving this week for the August recess, Senate leaders from each party predicted Tuesday, clearing the way for the surprisingly popular program to continue uninterrupted.
“We’ll pass cash for clunkers….before we leave here,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.
“In the end, we know where the numbers are,” acknowledged the third-ranking Senate Republican, Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, a critic of the program who said now he expects all Democrats and several Republicans to vote for additional funding.
It doesn’t surprise me that Senator DeMint was against it, but I was a little surprised that Thune opposed it, especially with the auto industry so big in SD. But he is now one of the Big Wheels in the party of NO – He has to tow the party line. I don’t think this incentive is any different then when feds give incentives for installing energy efficient windows or water conserving toilets. Great idea for once.
FROM CROOKS & LIARS;
As the mounting weirdness that is emanating from right wingers continues to flow, an increasing amount of death threats follow.
Since Mr Obama took office, the rate of threats against the president has increased 400 per cent from the 3,000 a year or so under President George W. Bush, according to Ronald Kessler, author of In the President’s Secret Service.
Some threats to Mr Obama, whose Secret Service codename is Renegade, have been publicised, including an alleged plot by white supremacists in Tennessee late last year to rob a gun store, shoot 88 black people, decapitate another 14 and then assassinate the first black president in American history.
Most, however, are kept under wraps because the Secret Service fears that revealing details of them would only increase the number of copycat attempts. Although most threats are not credible, each one has to be investigated meticulously.
According to the book, intelligence officials received information that people associated with the Somalia-based Islamist group al-Shabaab might try to disrupt Mr Obama’s inauguration in January, when the Secret Service co-ordinated at least 40,000 agents and officers from some 94 police, military and security agencies.
Being black has definitely increased the number of nut jobs on the prowl, but because he’s in the Democratic party that number is much higher. And it’s only going to get worse from here. The violent rhetoric from talk radio and FOX News continues to throw gasoline on the fire.Remember Dr. Tiller?
