This of course means not only will the mayor be new next year but we will get four new councilors, because Costello cannot run for Mayor and council at the same time.

Let me see if I have this right. As of right now, we are losing our esteemed mayor, his able bodied assistant Jodi Schwan, Beninga, Costello, Staggers, and Knudson?
l3wis, do you see anyone else throwing their hats in the mayors race or any other councilor race? Here is the list of ALL contenders so far.

I saw Kermit out a couple of weeks ago knocking on doors in the Southeast district. I assume he’ll be running for mayor?
Well, we will have six for sure once Staggers announces, which will be soon.
We also have two possibilities out there,
Hanson and Jamison (Barth says he is not running)
I find it interesting that Jim Entennmen, co-owner of J & L is running. I hope he understands that serving on the council is almost a full-time job, you just can’t show up when you feel like it. JIm is the one pushing hard for this enormous Events Center.
I also got a kick out of the other ‘De Knudson’ running for council in the SE district, Sue Aguilar. She lists herself as a ‘Community Advocate’ and lists her husband as the Senior VP of CitiCards. Thanks but no thanks, I may not think much of her opponent, Bob the Barber Christensen, but at least he is working class and has a real job/business.
My best buddy Joel has some interesting sidebars on the candidates too;

Kranz also wrote about having more women on the council today;

I guess the way I look at it, it is about qualifications. The AL is always up in arms about gender and race, I don’t think it really matters when it comes to city government, since most of the decisions being made are financial, and if you have a good financial background, you are qualified to serve.
I also like how they take every opportunity they can to hammer on Staggers and Stehly;
“Stehly unsuccessfully ran for an at-large seat on the council in 2008.”
Theresa actually did pretty good considering her votes only cost her half of what Vernon’s did. (Vernon spent 3x more then Theresa).
Hanson and Jamison (Barth says he is not running)

Heard anything about Knobe?
Joel R. thinks he is not going to run either.
