A little rumble at Carnegie Hall

Yesterday afternoon at the Sioux Falls city council informational meeting councilor Staggers brought up a touchy subject, and apparently, for once, Quen Be De Knudson wasn’t watching Larry King or the Olympics, she was paying attention, and she literally had a cow. I will suggest you watch the video (it is about 10 minutes in).

But here is the jist; Councilor Costello was appointed Council Chair not too long ago, and now he is running for mayor. Staggers (and Brown) have suggested he resign from the post since it gives him an unfair advantage. Case in point, the city is running a PSA on CityLink16 promoting another one of their stupid surveys to the public. So who is doing the PSA message? Munson? Quen Be De? Nope. Costello.

Staggers has asked the council to vote on a resolution to determine whether Pat should stay as council chair because of this conflict, and De went ballistic. It is worth watching. I really think she should go back to watching reruns of the Cosby Show.

Public Option fails in Senate, but may be still alive in the House

This shouldn’t surprise any of, the Demorats and Republicants have taken money from the healthcare industry for years, that is who they represent, not us.

There was several polls that came out recently that said anywhere from 55-65% of Americans support a public option. So who do these congress critters work for? I think we know the answer to that question.

I almost used the ‘C’ word, but I remembered Sarhoid like Dr. Pepper, not Coca-Cola;

During the ethics investigation of Sarah Palin now known as â€œTroopergate,â€ that phrase became seared into the collective consciousness of Alaskans.Â Palin’s spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton used that word referring not to Palin, but to the former Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan.Â Palin had pressured Monegan to fire her ex-brother in law Trooper Mike Wooten whose nasty divorce from Palin’s sister had left bitter feelings.Â Monegan refused to fire him, and was subsequently dismissed by the governor, leaving the Department of Public Safety without leadership, and leaving many Alaskans with a bad taste in their mouths.

Sioux Empire Fair

Like I have said in the past, The SE Fair makes money, as long as people are not stealing from them

This is great news, and does not surprise me, the SE Fair made good money this year, in a down economy;

It was nearly five months ago when the Sioux Empire Fair came to the county for financial help. Tuesday, interim fair CEO Tryg Fredrickson gave the county a check to pay back that $216,000Â loan.

“We had a good year, wasn’t great. But we’re still in the hole, we’re not out of the hole. We still got a lot of work to work ourselves out of it,”Â Fredrickson said.

Fredrickson said the net income of the 70th annual fair was up considerably compared to 2008, but sponsorship money was down.

And finally, a public official states the obvious;

“Matt Adamski, who apparently was either incompetent or just stupid, who at this point we know, and he knows, that the gifts that he received were bought with stolen money. I would urge him to return those gifts,”Â Barth said.

It’s about time someone started connecting the dots.

“I’m delighted that you’re able to make me eat my words and pay us back and we can continue on with the fair, so congratulations,”Â Kelly said.

And I will have to agree with Dick Kelly, Congrats! It’s kinda like being mugged, you can either hide in fear, or you can get out of bed the next morning and walk to the bus stop, the SE Fair decided to walk to the bus stop.
