Suggested Donation $25 Per Person

While I think a happy hour is a great way to promote yourself, I would like to tell Mike I can get a Hell of a lot of two-fers for $25 at Tommy Jacks, I’m just saying.

And while we are on the topic of Mayor races, let’s talk a little about who I am NOT supporting and WHY; Vernon Brown. While I still don’t think Brown has a chance of Hell of even making it to the runoff, I think the thing that bothers me the most about Vernon’s candidacy is the fact that he thinks he is qualified to be mayor. Why does he think that? All the other candidates besides Brown have either manergerial, economic, governmental experience or all three. In fact if you were rating the candidates on that alone this is how the list would go;

STAGGERS, PETERSON, COSTELLO, HUETHER.

Being a TV journalist and marketing director for a company, that BTW has conflicts of interest with the city, doesn’t make you qualified to be mayor – councilor maybe – but not mayor. Throw in the towel Vernon before you start looking like an indoor pool.

  1. Vernon Brown is the President of the South Dakota Municipal League. Haven’t seen you mention that fact. Not pledging my support to Mr. Brown but according to your opinion he must have tricked every municipality in South Dakota into believing he has some leadership skills. Just sayin…

  2. You make a good point, but I was looking at this as more as ‘measuring up’ resumes to the other guys. Being president of a ‘club’ doesn’t always qualify you as a leader. Especially if you consider the municipal league’s idea to raise everyone’s taxes to build entertainment facilities in one of the worst economic climates since the great depression. That isn’t leadership, that is stupidity.

    Trust me, Peterson scares me to death, but he still has a better resume then Brown. I am just saying.

  3. “You don’t lead by hitting people over the head – that’s assualt not leadership.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower

  4. Most past presidents of the SD Municipal League are buffoons. The city’s code enforcer one. His education cannot be verified and he was dismissed from the highway patrol for oath and incompetance reasons. Vernon Brown should be embarrassed to hold this title.

  5. You’re wrong. He was past president of the municipal league. I did a complete background. Forthcoming, per city code, I’m bringing him into a city council ethics hearing (February/March). I made a complaint that is a matter of court record that the city attorney’s office intercepted before the council could respond. There will be a full day hearing with a dozen witnesses and a court reporter. Of interest is the Chicago Sun Times reporter as a witness who caught him hiding evidence from the Janklow case.

  6. Yes I do if we are talking about the same person. The accident w/Randy Scott was in 2003 and he was at the city then.

  7. Hammerhead,

    Here’s one link. The damaging article and testimony will be presented at the ethics hearing.

  8. HH- You must be talking about someone else, or just flat out lying to protect that person. Which is it?

  9. No, we are talking about the same person and I am not flat out lying to protect anyone. To the best of my knowledge he was working at the city in 2003 and let’s just leave it at that.
