Plaintiff Guy writes a funny letter
Before you get all worked up over what PG has to say, you must realize, I detect a bit of sarcasm;
City government has not served us well. A higher sales tax is proposed. Our homes have lost value, but real estate taxes are the same.
With home-rule government, the mayor is king and the council is virtually powerless.
Citizens watched while wind energy production chose Brandon, the oil industry chose Elk Point, Lifelight chose Worthing and a resort chose Larchwood. Principal business interests in Sioux Falls are banking, health care, construction and agriculture. Call centers are laying off, credit card companies have had legislative restrictions placed on them, health care could become nationalized, the construction pace is none, and agriculture is in overproduction with weak crop prices.
It’s looking like Route 60 in Minnesota and Iowa could become a new limited-access highway. Minneapolis-to-Omaha commerce would bypass Sioux Falls.
The downturn started early this year, and there are signs of a population exodus. Will the last one to leave Sioux Falls please turn off the lights?
Staggers promises to hold the line on property taxes
Sioux Falls City Councilor Kermit Staggers vowed that he would not raise property taxes in 2011 if he’s elected mayor next spring.
Bargain? Whatever.
The city of Sioux Falls, once again, is starting to crow about how they are saving taxpayer’s money;
On Tuesday, city officials opened bids for the project and learned that building the new span will cost $8.4 million – about $1.6 million below what the city estimated.
Really, except for this tidbit of course;
Bonus: If construction is finished in 140 days, Cramer & Associates earns a $250,000 bonus. If the company finishes early, it will receive $10,000 for each day, up to 25 days, meaning Cramer & Associates could earn $500,000 in incentives.
And something else left completely out of the story – we are borrowing the money to build the bridge instead of just taking it out of the 2nd penny budget which we should have done to begin with. So how much in interest will we be paying?
I suggest all residents of Sioux Falls don’t believe a damn thing the Munson administration has to say in their last months.
What do you think of the new transit name?
From the Gargoyle Leader;
Sioux Falls Transit has a new name. Sam – or Sioux Area Metro – will start appearing on the side of city buses. “We feel it’s going to be a new beginning to our fantastic little system,†said Karen Walton, Sam general manager. It will take about six months to change everything over to the new name, Walton said. The city unveiled the new name and logo this morning.
I just don’t understand all the secrecy surrounding the decision though? Dumb.
