Can I get a tax credit to?

I’m all about tax credits to employers, but why give tax credits to employers that are hiring low wage jobs?

Federal income tax credits are now available to South Dakota employers who hire unemployed military veterans or young adults who aren’t attending school or working.

I think the tax credits should come with some kind of guarantee the employer will pay above scale after a 90 day review. I see this as a way for employers to not only save money on taxes but save money on wages. Why are we rewarding employers who pay low wages? Only in South Dakota!

To qualify, veterans must have served on active duty and been discharged or released and received unemployment payments for at least four weeks.

The disconnected youth are people between 16 and 24 years old who lack basic skills. Employers can save up to $2,400 in tax credits by hiring people who qualify.

Other target groups include welfare recipients, veterans, ex-felons and food stamp recipients.

And we should be surprised that employers oppose the Employee Free Choice Act.

Washington Pavilion’s Arts Night decided to take everyone’s donation this year

Surprise, Surprise. After fighting with me about how assanine it was to reject an arts donation, it seems someone at the Visual Arts Center fricking woke up and came up with a great idea on how to accept all artistic donations;

  Arts Night Silent Auction, New this year is a silent auction of original artwork. Exhibition runs March 20 through April 29, 2009, with final bidding to take place during Arts Night on May 1, 2009. The Silent Auction gallery is adjoining the main gallery and bids on artworks can be submitted at the Visual Arts Center reception desk.

I also heard that the artists have a choice whether to receive a percentage of the purchase price or tickets to the live auction, another suggestion I made yearrrrrrsssss ago.

So I wonder who is taking credit for all of these changes?

Another one from the vault

larry

This was a toon I did when Pressler was running against Janklow in the primaries for Congress (inspired by South Park of course). During that campaign you could see Pressler out and about quite a bit. Chuck and I used to frequent Theo’s lounge on Friday nights after work. One night we go in there and the place was packed accept for a 4-top. Well Pressler and his wife come in and two of their friends and they grab the 4-top. But it only had 3 chairs next to it, so Larry stood for awhile, then he decided to walk around and find an extra chair. Right next to Chuck and I was a couple that had a 3-top. They had their coats hanging on the 3rd chair. Larry very nicely goes up to ask if he could use the chair and the guy gives him the meanest look I have ever seen and barks ‘NO!’ Larry just sheepishly walked away. I still remember looking over at Chuck and we burst into laughter at the same time. Politicians, you either love them or you hate ’em. Or you poop on them, like I do.

Plop.

unknownOkay, I am starting something new, C & L has done this for awhile, but I decided to start this tonight, because Eggbert sent me this image a few weeks back, and I haven’t been able to use it, but it makes me laugh until I puke everytime I look at it. So post your links and topics and let me know what you think.
