Subject: Please attend Monday City Council Meetings

Friends,

Tomorrow (Monday), Mayor Huether will present his Events Center vision at the 4 p.m. City Council informational session. At 7 p.m. that same evening, citizens will have a chance to respond. We MUST pack the city council chambers with supporters of a downtown location. Please take an hour on Monday night and join us at the Carnegie Town Hall Building at 235 W. 10th Downtown. Come at 4 or 7 or both. This is an important meeting and we need you there.

Several people advocating a downtown location will be there to present testimony at 7 p.m. You can do the same or just come as a supporter. Either way, please plan to be there. This is really important. Thank you.

  1. PLEASE forget the castle and work on the infrastructure before adding more fru fru. What is so hard to understand that if you do not take care of what you have it will colapse and fall into the deep pit you have made. The sewer system, streets, electricity, water lines, flood palnes, Sioux River damn, safe drinking water for the next hundred years far outweigh the need for a place to play. Let private business take over the Oaks (Howard Johnson’s) old builing site, build a small castle, an underground shuttle to the existing arena and allproblems will be solved, Get the heads out of the clouds and create more jobs for people by assingning monies for infrastructure work that will definetly help all the people of Sioux Falls for anothe 100 years.

  2. I would agree. As I have often argued, if we were driving on streets of gold and our sewer and water system was up to snuff, then I would be the first to jump aboard the EC plan. I don’t really support one, but if the voters approve it (which I don’t think they will in this economy) I would want it downtown.

    Important to who? and why?

  4. Angry Guy:

    “Important to who?”

    All citizens of Sioux Falls.

    “and why?”

Single largest investment the City has taken on to date. Might want to make sure we don’t fuck it up over the next 50 years.

  5. Single largest investment the City has taken on to date.

Maybe I missed something. On what date did we take on this investment?

  6. Fine, add “proposed” to my post.

and AG, if you live, work or play in SF your ass will be funding this project one way or the other.

This thing will go to a vote next year and it will pass, IMHO. The only thing we can do now is try to put the best option on the table.

  7. I am so over Sioux Falls trying to be like Sioux City, Omaha, Fargo, Mpls…we were stupid not to have the foresight to do somethiing like this before — and NOW it’s a big deal??!! We’ll screw it up some way, and frankly, I enjoy going to those other cities for shows — they were innovators, not followers and I will still go. Our city will still get crappy shows as we always do and this will fall short, like us getting on the bandwagon for everything else (ie: Krispy Kreme and stores and restaurants that were cool a decade ago and now failing in Sioux Falls — surprise, surprise!!)

  8. Kinda surprised you would want it downtown. The people pushing for a downtown location own land there and stand to make a lot of money.

  9. Not true Dave, it’s a citizens group who’s majority is people like me who have no interests downtown.

Yes, downtown business owners will benefit, but they are mostly local and their money stays local. Plus, if you look at the main roads in & out of DT, you’ll find way more businesses that are along those routes who would benefit from a more balanced traffic flow.
