“What’s the best salon in Mitchell to get my hair done?”

Dear Tea Party voter: You’ve been had.

When the good people of South Dakota voted last month to send Republican Kristi Noem to Congress, they probably believed that she would give no quarter to the lobbyists and special interest groups who enjoyed, as she put it, “throwing money at the feet of a member of Congress.”

But since she defeated Democratic Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (in part by making an issue of Herseth Sandlin’s marriage to a lobbyist), Noem has hired her new chief of staff from . . . a lobbying firm! And on Tuesday afternoon, she was the guest of honor at a “Meet & Greet” with Washington high-rollers at the powerhouse lobbying firm Barbour Griffiths Rogers. Once these boys start throwing money at Noem’s feet, she’ll soon be chin deep in lobbyist greenbacks.

It was probably inevitable that the Tea Party activists would be betrayed, but the speed with which congressional Republicans have reverted to business-as-usual has been impressive.

House Republican leaders rejected a Tea Party-backed candidate as the new chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, instead installing Hal Rogers of Kentucky, who is known as the “Prince of Pork” and who once said pork is a “bad word for making good things happen.”

Many Tea Party favorites, meanwhile, have discovered the appeal of Washington lobbyists’ cash and advice. South Dakota’s Noem is one of at least 13 incoming Republican lawmakers who have hired lobbyists to run their offices. As The Post’s Dan Eggen reported last week, dozens of freshman lawmakers have already had fundraisers to collect millions of dollars from lobbyists and other deep-pocketed interests. In the month since Election Day, new Republican members had more than a dozen such “debt retirement” events.

  1. What was I crying about? I didn’t vote for her. I just find it funny she hasn’t even taken the oath of office and she is already lining up for the pork.

  2. Jeff.

Yer a work of art. You claim to be neither a D or an R and vote with your pocketbook. Your welfare queen and lobbyist owned new rep is exposed and all you’ve done since coming here is apologize for her.

  3. And there is no way in Hell Steffy could pull off hoop earrings in a Western Picnic Tablecloth shirt.

  4. I was waiting for her to get on all fours during one of the TV commercials (not for the reasons you are thinking Poly) but so the family could pull up a chair and eat Famous Dave’s off of her back.

  5. seriously tho. to continually bitch about noem before she’s in office just seems like so much sour grapes. who she hires, etc. are legitimate things to complain about but it’s really one sided. that’s what gets me – the one sidedness. i’ve stated repeatedly noem / herseth-s, no better no worse. the differance is who they get their money from. no suprise poly is a broken record with the welfare queen stuff while pinching his eyes closed to the truth about subsidies. it gets old repeating myself about farmers and subsidies, the history, what happened to farming as ag. companies and crooked politicians took over the industry creating giants and a lot of rich people. poly’s been spoon fed talking points from unions – look at stephs page on sourcewatch and note the $10’s of thousands from unions but that’s ok – she was a D.

As long as there are extreme left and extreme right idiots in control and duping voters to support them we will continue to get screwed. All i wish is for some objectiveness.

oh, and i’d love it noem was a one term pol, even tho she hasn’t even been sworn in yet.

  6. I’m not bitching, it seems the person in the WashPo editorial is the one bitching. I salivate thinking about Snooki’s term. She will give me, and many others in the comedic political world much to chew on.

Will she survive the next election. Probably, if the Dems don’t get someone decent to run against her.

A name I am going to throw out there is Adam Weiland.

Why don’t you tell us again how conglomerate farming operations, like the Noems run, are VICTIMS of Ag companies. I haven’t had a really good laff yet today.

  8. “conglomorate” farms wouldn’t exist if pricing was fair and, politicians and ag companies never started sleeping together. figure it out yourself if you’re really interested. you’re not really interested tho. plug your ears, close your eyes, and sing lalalalala. that will allow you to contiue parroting your union marching orders and bash anyone right of where you need to be.

  9. “conglomorate” farms wouldn’t exist if pricing was fair and, politicians and ag companies never started sleeping together.

So let’s get this straight. Kristi and her conglomerate family have raked in millions in farm subsidies. None of this would have happened had pols and ag companies not gone to bed together. So we send Kristi to Washington propelled by the Tea Party decree of less government?

    LMFAO

  10. poly. you may not be as smart as i’ve thought. it’s not about noem. you really don’t care much for the truth and i won’t reapeat myself – we’ve been through this for years. steph’s family has “raked in millions in farm subsidies” too. Ever type a word about that? didn’t think so. you are blinded by politics.
    Merry Christmas.

  11. it’s not about noem.

Oh but it is Jeff. SHE is in the drivers seat today, speeding tickets and all. I never cut Steph any quarter either. She cow-towed to the predator credit card companies and anyone else with $$$$$. I even stated here and elsewhere I would vote for her opponent over a year ago. Then when Kristi became Stephs opponent I did some digging. Long story short? I voted for the lesser of two evils. Steph.
