“Maybe I can invoice the SF School District for the time it takes me to eat my free lunch?”
This of course doesn’t surprise me;
SIOUX FALLS, SD – How much would someone have to pay you to do a TV interview?
KELOLAND News doesn’t offer compensation for interviews, but South Dakota school districts do offer compensation for board members who are interviewed, or doing anything on behalf of the district outside of official meetings. It turns out an interview KELOLAND News did with a former board member this spring cost taxpayers $75.
On March 21, then-school board member Debbie Hoffman came to the KELOLAND studios for an interview about a policy to allow for teacher searches on school grounds.
A month later, on April 25, Hoffman submitted her time to the school board and was approved for compensation. Turns out, it’s perfectly legal.
“State law allows school board members to turn in for up to $75 a day for school board meetings or events or meetings related to school board business,” current School Board President Kent Alberty said.
When Hoffman sat on the last EC task force, she never showed up for a meeting until the end when they needed to start making decisions, and she acted like she had all the answers. While education is extremely underfunded, and school kids in SF get FREE and reduced lunches, Debbie thinks she should be paid for a 5 minute interview. I hope she takes that $75 check, rolls it up really tight and shoves it straight up her  . . .
Boggles the mind.
There was a time she had her kids enrolled in the Brandon school district while a SF school board member but the Argus failed to report on that.
There was talk (at the time) that she was fired from her job at the food bank for taking food. So I guess asking for pay for the interview fits her behavior.
I was so glad she lost the election.
I have heard so many ‘Debbie Hoffman’ rumors, I could probably start my own blog about it. Not sure about food stealing situation, but asking to be paid for an interview sounds like sour grapes to me.
It’s called ethics..which obviously she didn’t have. Just because you are allowed or can, doesn’t mean you should.
No kidding? Huh? I could see if this was like $1000. But $75? Talk about petty. Why do politicians constantly complain they are not paid enough? Why did you run to begin with? You knew what the job paid.
Most Board members receive over 10 grand each year for additional meetings on top of their Board pay. We pay school Board members double what a city or county Board members make.
So she does a half hour interview for $75, while part time teachers, of which the city has many, work for $90 a day with ZERO benefits. So telling of todays society.
If she decides to run for the City Council in 2012, remember this….
CR – Is she really that dumb?
This is what people call “politics”. Sad, isn’t it!
This is one of a hundred reasons while school boards are absolutely worthless. School districts need to hire someone who knows how to balance a checkbook and make smart decisions.
Are school board bases their decisions on what the lawyers tell them to do.
This has been going on for years and years – Debbie just happen to become the scapegoat. I am in no way a Debbie Hoffman fan – but she took the fall for many that have been “charging” us for years for their 2 minute interviews.
Secondly – this is just one of the many things that happens behind our school administration doors. It starts at the top and we all know who sits on the throne there. She didn’t even reside in the SF school district her first years as Superintendent and our green stamp board didn’t give a rip. I wish we had the opportunity to vote out the Superintendent, but as long as we have a school board that thinks they are all doing us a favor just for running, we will have an administration that views that using a phone system to scare the living crap out of everybody over the budget is a proper way to get support. Oh by the way Scott – Hohman’s daughter just got a job with Southeast Tech which is run by the school district. So – let me get this straight – her husband can’t coach wrestling in the district, but her daughter can land a nice job at STI and not one board member raised an eyebrow? Pathetic.
Depends what position she got at STI? Is she working in the mess hall as a dish washer, or is she an administrator or teacher. That is interesting news. Can you supply a link to the staff? Pam must have learned her job hiring skills from Rounds.
Ask and you shall receive. No dish washer job here. In fact – completely the opposite.
