Before I began this review, I will give full disclosure. I helped come up with the name of Big Cheese, and helped with some other concept ideas and actually designed the original logo (which is not being used – can’t win them all, I guess).
Anyway, I got a coupon in the mail the other day for delivery, so I thought I would give them a shot. Shortly after they first opened, I went into the place and got a gyro sandwich, and it was really good, but I’m not into the whole trendy sports bar thingy, so I couldn’t see myself hanging out there, that and it is in a very strange location (Cliff and Benson). I will give them credit, nothing like that exists out there, and ever since the Sidewinder closed, I don’t venture that way very often.
I chose the Magic Mushrooms for an app ($9.99)
Fresh mushroom caps stuffed with our signature handmade sausage, cream cheese, and a touch of fresh herbs topped with melted parmesan.
I have had stuffed mushrooms before, and have always liked them, but these had a great twist, they were mostly stuffed with spicy sausage, and damn tasty. But you gotta eat them hot. They were still hot when I got them, but starting to cool quickly. Best if ate in the restaurant.
My pizza was the best part of my delivery though. Pork Belly Passion (17.99)
99 Chunks of tender braised pork belly, red onions, sliced Canadian bacon smothered in BBQ sauce and our signature freshly grated mozzarella cheese
Sorry, but the description is not correct. There was maybe 12 large chunks of pork belly. Not sure where this ’99’ number came from? But the flavor was rich and smokey. I have always been a fan of BBQ sauce on pizza and pork toppings.
Big Cheese is damn tasty, but a little spendy for my taste. My bill was $30 before my $4 coupon. That is a gob of moolah for a pizza and an app. I guess if you are into sports bars and paying too much for a pizza pie, Big Cheese is for you. If you are a cheap ass . . . well you have your options.
