City Council will finally follow city charter and state bid laws

The city council finally approved, approving city contracts last night;

The Sioux Falls City Council voted Monday to give itself greater oversight on city contracts, despite strong opposition from officials in Mayor Mike Huether’s administration.

With Monday’s action, the council will have to approve any contract that exceeds state bid limits – $25,000 for goods and services and $50,000 for public improvement contracts. The approval process is expected to be routine, with contracts to be listed on the council’s consent agenda and approved with a single vote.

Vern ‘The Velvet Hammer’ Brown shot down Joe P. Kirby and his argument that the city should not be approving contracts (FF 51.27 ITEM #13).

The measure passed 6-1 (Entenman NO. Rolfing ABSENT).
