  1. “Pros”: If you’re over age 65, you may only be responsible for a portion of the payback due to average life expectency. Better make sure your kids produce plenty of grandkids though to help finish paying the tab over the next 20+ years.

  2. Eventally the Argus will acknowledge that city government has become a crime syndicate. Theyre still aligned favoring traffic cameras & denying citizen constitutional due process. Its illegal when contracts are awarded without competitive bids before citizens vote. Characteristic for mafia styled procedures but unacceptable for government of, by, & for the people.

  3. Jonathan Ellis told me about 4 weeks ago they were putting this together. If he is in charge of doing it – I think it will be pretty fair. Megan Luther would do a good job also.

  4. I look at that picture and notice all of the parking, traffic flow, and green space is basically gone on the west side. Hey – but thanks to the school district for their willingness to allow parking on their land – we can all play Frogger across Western. What a cluster!

  5. Good point Alice15. Frogger, that’s funny. Betcha the director of parking will recommend buying the Entenmann property for a parking garage.

  6. LMAO! Yup – that looks pretty accurate. Can somebody send that to the Mayor somehow for the “vision” we see?

  7. The featured speaker at this week’s South Dakota Minicipal League convention was Peter Kageyama, author of the book – “For the Love of Cities” – a “New Urbanist” who believes in and promotes conceptrs like walkability, bikeability, and developing cities that are “loveable”, that capture the HEARTs of citizens and foster random, spontaneous community develpment from the roots up. (http://fortheloveofcities.com/) After his talk, which frankly brought tears to the eyes of many who attended it (most of the municipal government officials in the state) someone asked him – “So Peter, what was your initital impression of Sioux Falls as you came into town?” (One of his talking points was the importance of gateways in making a first impression). His response started with a sort of marveling at the mosaic of the farm land as his plane approached. He then said (paraphrasing) I asked the cab driver as we left the airport “So, Where is DowntTown?”. To which the cab driver responded, waving vaguely over his left shoulder to the rear “Back there.”, to which he wondered, “It’s so great that your airport is right close to the center. So, why are we driving in the opposite direction to the heart of the city?”

    THAT is the first impression of being driven from the airport, away from DT to go to a convention of a first time visitor.

  8. *Cough* biased *cough*

    What else? There is no such thing as unbiased media, except maybe for good ol’ South Dacola 🙂

  9. Ruf – I have never read any of Peter Kageyama’s books but have heard a lot about him. Stehly and I have had many great convos about what ‘Quality of Life’ means to different people in SF. I think our beautiful FREE parks system and low crime rate is what makes SF great. I could give two shits about Events Centers and Suburbia and Walmart on the edges of the city. Our city planners don’t understand that though, you have to take the pulse of a community instead of just polls.

  10. While we’re on sitcom characters – Mine would have to be Lamont from Sanford & Son. But Mr Firly has my upmost respect as well as Barney.

  11. Ellis’s story was good yesterday;
