The Ugly Table #53

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

I gave you and your husband great service, and how couldn’t I? You were the first and ONLY table in the restaurant.

The kitchen, myself, other servers and the FOH manager had your full attention. Heck I even made your salads myself.

You told me our pasta was ‘really, really good’ (because two ‘Really’s’ are better then one)

When I brought the check you asked where the line was to leave gratuity on the CC receipt, I showed your husband as he grumbled something (this should have been my first clue – obviously you were trying to give him a subtle hint to actually leave a tip for once, something I assume you have issues with – as do I).

As you walked out the door I proceeded to grab the payment book to find no receipt in it

(this is not uncommon, people accidentally take the slip even after signing it – I have had to chase down three cars in the past week, ALL have had tips on them).

As I proceeded towards your vehicle (the only one in the parking lot) your husband tries to drive away until I wave my arms.

You roll down the window and ask what is up? I said, “I need a signed CC receipt.” (as I show you the empty payment book) “It’s not there? I must have forgotten to leave it”, she replies. You hand me the signed slip with NO gratuity written on it (I guess that is why you ‘FORGOT’ and were in such a hurry to scurry away in your brand new, Ford F-150 Super Duty Crew Cab – Git R’ Done!).

To each their own. Fuck you, I got mine. Etc. Etc.

Then you have the nerve (or the stupidity) to thank me for my service. (I’m sure the look on my face was priceless – can you say ‘Fuck You’ with your eyes? I’m sure I did.)

You couldn’t have just slipped a couple bucks under your plate when your domineering husband wasn’t looking?

Or doesn’t he allow you to carry money? Or allow you to have your own opinion? Jane, this is 2011, not 1911.

You seemed like a nice young lady – but you and your husband have some issues to work out when it comes to money (would have loved to hear that convo after I walked away from your vehicle). I feel sorry for you, not just for being married to a cheap ass, but a cheap ass who feels he has to supplement certain misgivings with big trucks. It probably cost $5 to just start that monstrosity – ironically an appropriate tip for my service.

Minnehaha County has money problems? Get outta here!

Don’t believe the county has money problems, take a tour of the fairgrounds.

Newsflash! Minnehaha County mismanages money!

Minnehaha County’s deepening financial problems are straining relations with the city of Sioux Falls, which partners with the county on key programs.

The county commission’s decision to cut funding to Metro Communications, the museum system and libraries means the city also could cut funding to those programs, albeit reluctantly.

This is nothing new. I have always thought the county has spent money unwisely. Heck, let’s look at their track record.

• They went and bought a homeless shelter without the support of city money. Do I think the shelter is needed? YES! Do I think the county should be going this alone? NO!

• They also allowed money to be embezzled for years from the SE Fair because of very little oversight.

• They bought an ornate fence for the county administration’s parking lot (yeah, we really needed that).

• They bought a military vehicle for the Sheriff’s department (I guess to capture phone booth VL casino robbers easier).

Heck, I could go ON and ON, and I don’t even follow them that closely.

At least the city is taking a cautionary approach. But one wonders WHO the city IS after reading this quote;

“I am not going to push for more co-op agreements until I’m fully confident we’ve got our own ducks in a row the way I want them,” Huether said.

The way YOU want them? Who died and made you king?

9/11

I found this video interesting.

I have never really had much to say about 9/11, except this, GW Bush ignored the warning signs then, bungled the Afghan capture of Osama and started two unneeded wars over it which has cost us life and treasure. One of Osama’s intentions was to crumble us financially.

Did he succeed?

River Greenway Steps: Shoddy work or by design?

I was examining the ‘steps into the river’ tonight, which are mostly completed and I noticed where there is curvature they are uneven (vertical face) – and noticeable. I’m no concrete or engineering expert, so I’m wondering if that was done for some water flow reason? You will notice in the photo that the white concrete steps are straight, but when it turns into the brown concrete it gets really wavy. This is usually the result of warped and bowed wood forms. I know if you use sheet metal forms you can probably alleviate that problem. But like I said, I’m no expert.

Anyone wish to take a stab at this? Shoddy work or something else?
