If Paul Schiller and Groth want to have a show about weather, I suggest they tough it out like the rest of us artists and put it up in some coffeehouse;
Just in time for summer vacation, there’s a new exhibit at the Washington Pavilion. “Beauty In The Beast” features pieces from South Dakota artists highlighting the weather. Along with Paul Schiller, four other local artists lend their talents to the collection.
“Mary Groth, Nancyjane [Huehl] and Dale Lamphere are probably some of South Dakota’s best when it comes to art, and it’s a real honor to be able to work with them,” Schiller said.
Do I think an exhibit like this is cool, meh, but what bugs me the most is that it seems since Schiller and Groth used to sit on the board of directors they can feature their artwork in the building as many times as they want to.
It’s getting old. Go buy your own museum already.
That kind of stuff really ticks me off! Artists struggle to be noticed and make a few pence from their hard work. Every time cronies are selected to show their stuff, genuine artists are denied another opportunity. If they were serious about displaying art, people with particular governmental connections ought to be disallowed as a rule. What crap.
Oh, this has been going on since day one with Mr. Schiller. I can’t even count the number of shows he has had at the Pavilion or has been featured in.
Is he a good photag? Sure, he does nice work. Is it cutting edge or something the community hasn’t been exposed to before? No.
Are Schiller, Groth, Huehl, and Lamphere big financial contributors to the Pavilion?

And to answer your question. Yes & No.
What I would REALLY like to see..is all these photographers that are using digital photography and all the high end equipment…have an “old” camera with film…and try and take such breathtaking pictures…THERE’s an artist when one can do that!

I will defend ‘Digital Art’ to a degree. Anything that is manipulated to make something different, is art, like it or not.
I do know that Schiller does manipulate his images in Photoshop. Do I think he changes that ‘A Lot’ probably not, mainly color balance and contrast, etc.
