Do people even understand the freedoms of our democracy anymore?

“I don’t mind taking a few extra minutes doing the body scan.  If that’s what it takes to feel safe, they can scan us,” Tonya Miller of San Francisco said. “People complain or whine, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I have to do this.’  As long as we can feel safe with the family in the airplane, I’m fine.”

So let me get this straight. The airline companies can overcharge us for an uncomfortable ride, and take naked pictures of us before we PAY THEM for a service? Sounds about right.

  1. It’s the government taking the nudie pics, nor the airlines.

  2. Can we please get off this naked picture meme? The full body scanners went to displaying stick figures to represent scanned individuals a long time ago…

  3. I don’t believe for a second the scanners really show your ‘privates’ – HOWEVER…
My gripe all along with the new security measures whether it be body scans, pat downs, etc is that its useless show all designed to make people feel good. I have yet to see any proof that any of this has prevented any attacks. Either they’ve been foiled on the plane after security by civilians or the plots have been broken up long before. I’m not suicidal but I just can’t grasp how so many are willing to check all civil liberties at the door of the airport. Procedures that feel good but accomplish nothing seem to me more dangerous than doing nothing because it gives people a false sense of security. This is all about doing things for show and making people ‘feel good’ (see original quote from quoted story). Every week I see a video and/or story of a disabled child, a grandmother, or some other completely innocent bystander violated by apparently power drunk TSA employees. Out of principal I’ve avoided air travel for several years because I can choose not to use it (job doesn’t require it – at least not often). There is a point where to purchase some feeling of security we’ve given up too much, and I think we’re beyond that point.

  4. The ironic part is that air travel is still safer then automobile travel. Yet, there is no interregation before getting in your car.

  5. GregN, you stated “I don’t believe for a second the scanners really show your ‘privates’ ” . 2 minutes for your Google to work its worst and you will find posted images. If those images aren’t explicit, nothing is…
