Okay, we hired the plumber, but what about that pesky naming rights issue?

I’m still puzzled about all these press conferences about RFP’s and plumbers, yet no announcement on who’s name is going to be on the side of the building;

The site fence will go up July 24 and construction on the events center, which will eventually seat 12,000 people, will begin in August.

Midwestern Mechanical was recommended through what’s known as a best-value selection process for fire suppression services, including sprinkler systems. Tessier’s was recommended to do the HVAC and plumbing work.

The city will host another news conference today to identify the electrical contractor that will begin contract negotiations with Mortenson. Then, on Friday, a third news conference will be held to announce more key subcontractors.

“Yeah, and we hired Acme Brothers to deliver light bulbs to the construction site and ABC Pottie Pals to manage human waste from the construction workers.”

So when and if the naming rights deal is announced before ground breaking, will we get to the see the details of the negotiations? Will we get to see a list of competitors and their offers? I think hiring a construction risk manager was a fantastic idea to keep costs down. But will the public get the same deal with the naming rights? One wonders after you terminate your naming rights marketing evaluator half way through the process and hire a company that has a reputation to inflate ticket prices.
