Stehly told me that her and her volunteer got about 130 signatures today. I also attended the Democratic Forum today and was able to get about 30 signatures with the help of a friend.

I see Stehly had someone watching her 🙂

The rumor circulating is that snowgates are never going to happen if it was up to the mayor or the city council. Just like the RR Relocation project, the testing areas are just smoke and mirrors.

I encourage everyone to sign the petition and vote for snowgates this Spring.

12 Thoughts on “Snowgate petition drive off to a strong start

  1. Can the petition be downloaded? I’m pretty sure I can get a few signatures.

  2. Great Idea. I will scan and create a PDF.

  3. Oh, and I will check on the legality of that 🙂

  4. Speaking of the Dem Forum, someone asked Ellis about releasing the deets of the Dan Scott/ Randell Beck settlement (on the record, I will say Beck’s column was clearly sarcasm, in fact, the LAST funny thing he ever wrote and I defend it. I have never been a fan Billy Bob Janks, but when he decided to go after political humor I really lost what little respect I had for the man.) Ellis had a good argument, the newspaper is a private bizzo and they don’t have to release it. OK. But inquiring minds want to know. The 4th estate is supposed to look out for US. Period. And while I know Ellis has to collect a paycheck and be a good soldier, I for one wasn’t buying it. I think it would be great if the Argus Leader realeased the docs on the case. Warts and all.

  5. What a GREAT image!!!

    The Mayor, A Senior Citizen Volunteer, and the Petition Drive Organizer……..

    Snowgates……….A QUALITY OF LIFE project that will benefit ALL SIOUX FALLS RESIDENTS.

  6. I look forward to having snowgates in my neighborhood no later than November 1st, 2013.

    Here is a copy of the initiative language;

    MUNICIPAL INITIATIVE PETITION
    IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF SIOUX FALLS

    WE, THE UNDERSIGNED qualified voters of the municipality of Sioux Falls, the state of South Dakota, petition that the following ordinance be submitted to the voters of that municipality for their approval or rejection pursuant to law.

    The proposed ordinance in proper form is as follows:

    AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA TO MANDATE THE USE OF SNOW GATES FOR REMOVING SNOW FROM PUBLIC STREETS:

    BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA:

    The City of Sioux Falls shall use snow gates or other devices to prevent snow, in an amount that prevents usual access, from being plowed or placed into driveways or their openings to public streets from and after November 1, 2013. This section shall cover City employees and contract employees. Snow gates are discretionary upon the declaration of a snow emergency on routes that have been declared snow emergency routes.

    I’ve come to the conclusion that if you want the mayor to support any idea it has to somehow tie in with tennis. Could they plow the local tennis courts with snowgates?

    I want to sign one!

  9. I plan to attend the Cartoonist event, you can sign it then.

    Also, if ANYONE is interested in circulating petitions, shoot me an email and I can get them to you. We prefer we know our volunteers so this doesn’t become a ‘cluster’. Thanks for understanding.

    Bring one to my store and I’ll get my customers so sign!

  11. I will let Theresa know.

  12. BTW, I sent this email to the Mayor today and CC’d the council, the city clerk and some reporters in the media;

    Mike, I want to be honest with you about the snow gates petition drive.

    There are some things in this community that require CITIZENS to make a choice. Snow gates need to be decided by the citizens. We pay taxes for services, this is a service to us. It should be our decision whether we want them or not. This is too big of an issue to be decided by a mayor and city council.

    Instead trying to discourage our petition drive, I would suggest you back our petition drive and encourage citizens to not only sign this petition but to vote for this incredible public service.

    I would appreciate it if you would consider my requests.

    Have a FANTASTIC DAY!

    Scott L. Ehrisman

    He responded;

    Thanks for the note Scott. Hope all is well. Mike
