#37 1st Reading:  AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SIOUX FALLS, SD, PROVIDING SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATIONS TO FUND THE 2012 ANNUAL DEBT SERVICE PAYMENT FOR THE DENNY SANFORD PREMIER CENTER. ($4,250,500.00)

I thought the council was hoping this money would be spent on projects around the city?

No money for snowgates but we have millions to throw at the EC.

  1. He’s always known it’s not possible to build a 300 million events center for 110 million. Nickel & diming 5 million dollar funds isn’t going to help. Even the 110 million bond has been misappropriated and the events center will be short some 250 million. It’s becoming time for Huether to face the music. Finance can no longer hide Huether crime.

  2. This has to be an additional $4.25m sales tax windfall. Council has already spent most of the previous $4m surplus on the Greenway, Carnegie repairs, etc.

But if interest rates are so low, what’s the hurry to start paying off the EC bonds already? Something smells here.

  3. I’ve heard people at City Hall talking about an additional $40-$45 million that will be needed to complete the project, which includes building a parking ramp since there isn’t adequate parking.

  4. I wonder how Duluth got their arena (slightly smaller) for only $75M and that included a 5 story parking garage (Ramp)?? Oh, they used a competent architectural firm called HOK Sport.
But looks like the plan for the area to improve with prime businesses is already working. I see Tazito Burreto is in the old Happy Chef location.
