Conflict of interest? You betcha.

Watch the ‘100 Eyes’ show today in which they have the mayor’s wife on (that is not disclosed in the show) Scroll down to the videos in the middle of the page.

It doesn’t sit well with me that the city is donating $500,000 to a facility that the Mayor’s wife is helping to promote. This is a blatant conflict of interest having our mayor pull a half-million out of the CIP to promote a club sport that he just happens to be a part of with his wife.

As Cindy Huether says, “The stars just aligned.” Ah, yeah, right.

And apparently there is such a HUGE need for the facility, because their FB page has 147 LIKES.

Why did Darrin Smith with the City of SF Economic Development office Poo-Poo using the lottery system for selling club seating?

Director Smith touches on the subject at the city council informational meeting yesterday (FF: 25:00). Councilor Jamison suggested that they should have used a lottery system instead of first come, first serve in selling club seats. Which makes sense, this is how the city sells liquor licenses. It is not complicated, and by all accounts it is fair. And if you are chosen, and don’t have the money to pony up, you draw the next name. Seems simple? Right?

Smith does his best to make the ‘lottery system’ sound complicated. He goes into a mundane diatribe about making company names public (who are in the supposed drawing) and getting a ‘deposit’. Blah, Blah, Blah.

There is no reason the names would have to be made public in the drawing, there is also no reason they would have to make a deposit, I think a simple credit application would do. And since these club seats were so popular, as I said above, if you draw a name, and they don’t have the money, you draw another name.

Why do I think they didn’t use the lottery system? I have a feeling those club box sales kinda went down like the naming rights contract.

Pre-determined? Perhaps? We may never know, as councilor Jamison points out.

Jamison reminds Smith about ‘transparency’ and how it has kinda been lacking in this process with the city council. To which Smith replies, “We had a press conference announcing they were for sale.”

Rich. Real Rich, Darrin.

Did Mayor Mike try to ‘Huether’ the Governor’s Economic Development (ED) office?

Don’t mess with the ‘Wizard’ of Sioux Falls (reader submission)

After knocking a few cans over, I finally got the torrid details of the pissing match that is going on between the mayor and the governor’s economic development office.

I must remind you that these events are ‘rumored‘ to have occurred, by an anonymous, reliable source. I have had two other people verify the events as I am laying them out.

It all started with a lunch meeting the governor’s economic development office was having with a company interested in moving to Sioux Falls. Now this isn’t your normal, run of the mill, strip mall retail center, this is a research facility that wants to spend about $60-$80 Million building a facility in Sioux Falls. Also in attendance at the lunch was an ED rep from the city, and MMM.

Huether seemed to be confused as to why there wasn’t an ‘executive’ from the company at the lunch. The governor’s ED office informed Mike, during the meeting, that the Governor has already had ‘several meetings’ with the company in the past few months.

Mike was not happy (a temper tantrum ensued), and Mike left the meeting.

Mike then instructed his ED office to stop working with the Governor’s ED office representatives, and went as far to tell the governor’s ED office to ‘reassign’ certain reps.

Would have loved to hear the laughter in the Governor’s office after that request.

As I understand it, the Governor’s ED office reps are very good at their jobs, they also dot their ‘I’s and cross their ‘T’s. They probably also don’t care who gets credit for this, though preferably, they would prefer their boss to get the credit, since it seems the governor’s office seems to be the one doing all the legwork on this project.

It seems MMM is a little bent out of shape, because the governor’s office is stealing his thunder on this project. What is unfortunate is that Mike could screw this whole thing up because of his ‘ego’ problem.

The company is close to making a decision. They also admitted that 60% of the jobs they already provide are already from this region (I believe they are an Iowa company that is in the region) But have vowed to of course fill the remainder of the jobs from this region also. The main reason they want to move to Sioux Falls is they plan expansion, and they know they can only do it in Sioux Falls. They will also provide good wages, remember, as I understand it, this is a research facility, not a Walmart.

*As I noted, this comes from a very reliable source, but this is all second-hand accounts of the events.

SAVE Spellerberg PRESS CONFERENCE, today 2:30 PM, Main DT Library

The SAVE Spellerberg petitioners will announce their intentions after turning in petitions today. As I understand it, they plan to put it to a VOTE in the 2014 Spring Election. I also found out last night at DaCola Fest that the Snowgate test results, the Aquatics study and the City Survey results will be coming out soon. I guess the mayor’s office is reviewing them all right now.

South DaCola Fest #4?

I will have to admit, I never measure these events in success or not, because I really don’t read Dave Ramsey books. BUT, BUT, I do know we solved the Events Center parking problem, legalizing mary jane and why Denny Sanford wants to rule the world. Other then that, I drank some really good homemade wine, ate some good homemade salsa, met some new people and probably scared the living dogshit out of a local politician. Well, at least, dead dogshit, and chicken, rabbit and goat shit.
