City of Sioux Falls annoucement

I got word today that the city will soon announce that all parks in Sioux Falls will be ‘tobacco free’. I mildly remember the city council talking about this a few years back, and kind of steered away from the topic. Apparently the Parks Board and Health Board made the decision. One of the stipulations is;

‘The intention of the policy is to achieve voluntary compliance’

Good luck with that. I personally don’t care either way. It is annoying though to be enjoying the outdoors in one of our wonderful parks and smelling cigarette smoke, but it is a legal product.

Shape Sioux Falls, Where has the public discussion been?

Councilor Staggers has asked the question several times. Seems like there hasn’t been much public input on this 422 page document.

Doing just a quick skim through the document, you will see there is MAJOR changes to the zoning ordinances and definitions. I know that the document has been looked at by city officials, the planning board and I believe a volunteer committee. But what kind of exposure has the public had? The city council votes to implement the changes tonight. Trust me, if I were sitting on the city council right now, I would not want to be in their shoes. There are good things about the changes, and a few things that are sketchy. One thing you take away, just by giving it a quick review, is that the city is taking more CONTROL of what personal property owners can do with their property. There is also more detailed descriptions of what a ‘sign’ is.

I think it is unfortunate that the city did not hold several public meetings to explain the changes to the public. Especially since we have the most transparent mayor in the history of our city! DO THE HUETHER!

I find it quite ironic that when it comes to special interest club sport facilities and the Events Center there is more public meetings that you can shake a stick at, but when a 422 page zoning and ordinance document changes, there seems to be a din of silence from city hall. Move along, nothing to see here . . . yeah, right.

Mayor Subprime requests a meeting w/ private citizen over parodies of him

You would think Mike would be used to the hassling by now, but it is all about controlling the message I guess. He has told me several times he doesn’t believe in censorship. Well Mike, what would you call dragging a private citizen into a meeting with you after he posted parody photos of you on his Facebook page? Grow a thicker skin.

JT Nelson talks about his meeting on Facebook;

JT Nelson I’m not going to say much… but let’s just say he didn’t offer me a job, NOR does he find this funny. [walking away with tail between legs].

• So much for being Grand Poo-Ba of the St. Patty’s Day parade. Did he take away your birthday?

JT Nelson Pretty much. I think I’m grounded.

• You’ve stained the family name. I’m thinking JT Jelinkovic will be your new name.

• Hope you charged him for your time.

JT Nelson I thinking about the last name “Timberlake”…. JTT. I like the sound of that. Maybe I’ll run for mayor.

• Well to put it this way in my opinion, he needs to realize he is a public figure and his actions on national tv reflect our community. In other words, when your a public official, don’t be dancing around pointing at people like a teenager on crack. Too bad I can’t find a video of it online.

• I am kind of surprised he didn’t find the humor in it. It was all in fun, and he is probably embarassed because he realized how ridiculous he looked. I noticed it while watching the game too. I hope he wasn’t too tough on you. You are not banished from SF for life, I hope!
