SAVE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD PETITION

Thanks again to those who gave their time Thursday night to gather as a neighborhood and discuss the next steps in our collective efforts to keep our neighborhood safe.

As usual, there was a lot of dialogue and we are so fortunate to have dozens of knowledgeable, talented and engaged residents committed to maintaining a high quality of life for our families.

The consensus was to proceed with a petition for a referendum of Shapes Places – the city’s new zoning ordinance passed last month.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

This means we are trying to recall the Shapes Places zoning ordinance that was adopted on March 19, 2013.

WHAT DOES THIS REQUIRE?

First and foremost, signatures! We need to gather 5,300 signatures by April 19.  In order to obtain the 5,300 signatures in this short period of time WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

  1. This is misguided. I get the desire to hold your government accountable, but please – it’s not the zoning ordinance these people are mad about, it’s Walmart. It’s just NIMBYism, plain and simple.

It’s too bad, too – Shape Places has a lot of good stuff in it; it’s a huge improvement over the old code (although there’s still a long way to go).

  2. I refuse to offer pity to people who build homes near a major intersection and then complain when a retailer wants to position themselves on said intersection.

    Damn NIMBYs.

  3. I’m with slewfoot on this one.
“When I built by house in the middle of a cornfield between the two fastest growing neighborhoods in Lincoln County I never expected them to ACTUALLY build in the C3 zone right across the street from my $600,000 house.”

dumbasses. They’ll say its about safety and traffic, but really it’s about all the riff raff leaving their spent pregnancy tests and malt liquor bottles in their yards.

  4. Agree with Craig #3. The 600k homes are not in city limits. I don’t pity them because they can’t vote against Heutherism.

  5. Yeah, we had neighbors who were worried about the riff raff and traffic. Our street (Split Rock Road/18th) is a major intersection. For about the first 3 months we would have some dummy drive 50 mph thru our neighborhood trying to get to Iowa only to find out the dead end sign was actually true. We had no more “crime” in our neighborhood until the economy went south in ’09.

  6. So – of conspiracy theorists tend toward the tin foil version of sartorial splendor – what variety of flexible shiny material do NIMBY’S wear? Is it that gold-colored space foil?

No – really – it IS all a conspiracy.

  7. The correct definition of what you will be attempting is not a recall but a referendum. I would examine the document as a whole much closer. Agree with Tom H #1…a much more modern/streamlined Zoning and Land Use Ordinance.

  8. The NIMBY’s want country living and quarter horses. Walmart shoppers can’t get any more country and put your quarter in the kiddy horse ride at the front door.
