Found this statement by Paul Hegg interesting after receiving a TIF, a bulk head, spray park and renovated pedestrian bridge to his Hilton property;

Paul Hegg is one of the hotel’s developers. It’s the first partnership between Lloyd and Hegg companies and it’s a marriage that’s produced one of the most upscale properties in town.

“We’re going to be at the higher end because we’re going to be the luxury property in the marketplace, but, yeah it’s going to be an affordable location for people,” Hegg said.

The only oxymoron in Hegg’s statement is the word ‘affordable’. Sure, after property tax breaks and taxpayer funded amentities (in the millions) the place should be cheaper then Motel 6. Once again this proves our planning department and city council’s priorities when it comes to subsidies to the ‘Luxurious’ and ‘Upscale’ people of our community.

    Affordable to who? Certainly not the vast majority of the working class. $300 a night to look down on a polluted river my dog won’t swim in? If their restaurant is anything like Foleys I won’t be eating in the place anytime soon either. Been to foleys twice. The first time by choice, just to check it out. If a very average steak and their cdheapest glass of wine for two comes out to over $100, then I figure we got took. Can get a better steak for a fourth of what they charge at the Hartford Steakhouse. If you wanna rub shoulders with the elitists and their style of “ambiance”, then be my guest. Same as lighting a cigar with a 100 dollar bill.

    And these people needed a TIF?

    Lloyd’s operation.

  4. Poly, would agree, Foley’s is odd, because their other property, TRE Lounge is fantastic, and Callaways is ‘OK’

    Hey, this hotel is an elite and safe place for Huether non-competitive bid contractors to stay. The people pay gold for silver contracts so we should also provide extravagant lodging.

    How is anybody getting rich from TIFs?
    The city is not writing anybody a check.

    Paul Hegg failed to mention (and thank) the third member of the partnership…..the TAXPAYERS, who footed the bill for Phase II of the River Greenway which includes a spray park right outside the back door of his hotel.

    In addition, he and his partner, Craig Lloyd, received all the benefits of yet another TIF.

    Welcome to Lloyd’s World of Corporate Welfare, Mr. Hegg!

    Luxury compared to what? Sioux Falls barely has facilities that would qualify as three stars. Competing to be the best hotel in Sioux Falls is like competing to be the best driver in Sioux Falls. So long as you don’t drive ten under and don’t merge into the wrong lane when you turn, you’re guaranteed a spot in the top 10.
