There has been a lot of shuffling around in the council races this year, especially with councilors Entenman & Aguilar deciding not to run for re-election, leaving only Erpenbach (who currently doesn’t have a challenger) and Rolfing as the only two incumbents running (Rolfing has two challengers) There are three people competing for Jim’s empty seat, and currently NO challenger to Bonita Schwan for Sue’s empty seat.

While the first thing I would like to see is a challenger to Special Interest/Zero Accomplishment Erpenbach, one has to question if there has been any ‘SOFT’ recruitment of a challenger to SON organizer, Schwan.

My first suspicions were that the mayor and his minions (Zach Crago w/the SD Democratic party) were actively looking for a challenger to Bonita.

My new speculation is that with Erpenbach not having a challenger, she is focusing on finding a challenger to Schwan. There have been a couple of names thrown out there, and I suspect a decision will be made soon. While I am going to keep those names to myself, for now, I will say that the people they have been courting share an image, age and gender with Schwan, but hardly the style or education/work experience of Schwan.

I guess we will have to see who Erpenbach drags to Carnegie Hall kicking and screaming to pick up their nominating petitions.

  1. I thought you were going to run?

If so, I can be your token Republican advisor, I can help you bridge the gap you now have with successful, hardworking SD peeps who might upchuck a bit when they see you embracing Al Franken (we can tell people it’s Bill Peterson)

  2. I concur – make a move – throw your hat in. I’ll advise from the left and maybe between Sy and I you can keep it on the road.

  3. Lalley cracked a joke on Tuesday’s 100 Eyes show about me being a Staggers supporter who also hangs out with Franken. I have said it a million times that I am an indy for a reason, because I support positions all over the spectrum. I joked at the Blue Ball with a group of people that I left the Democratic party because they are not liberal enough for me, and this complete stranger fist bumped me and said, ‘Hell yeah!’

  4. Seriously, get in the race! EHRISMAN FOR SIOUX FALLS. Let’s start of draft movement.

    Sy: File the papers.

  5. A liberal would love the idea of TIFs.
I tend to think of you as “all over the map” – or perhaps “undisciplined” as to political philosophy.

  6. Political philosophy no longer matters, it should, but it doesn’t. It is merely a facade or a marketing piece used by successful politicians to shield their actual behind the scenes networking priorities.

How else do you explain Daschle and Janklows’ relationship, Huether and subprime lending, ObamaCare which is actually a 1993 GOP concept, or Clinton’s tight friendship with the Bush family? The Tea Party in some ways has ruined it for us all. Their fanaticism with no sense of compromise has made a political philosophy in general or the hopes of it no longer in vogue which only further fuels the pragmatic politicians abilities to network at the expense of the average Joe, while giving the appearance of a phony philosophy and a political soul.

  7. BG – Do you live in central district?

“A liberal would love the idea of TIFs.”

I would agree, if they were not handed to wealthy developers building luxury hotels and condos.

  8. Plenty of that Walmart 501c4 money to go around to anyone looking to make a name for themselves! Promote the Social Welfare! Run for city council!

  9. DL – Crap… No, I don’t live in central district but it’s nice to know you’d have my vote if I did.

    Maybe I could borrow a friend’s address…? 🙂
