There are some “ongoing” road studies affecting the Sioux Falls area we should understand. They are located HERE.

We got to go to church tonight to find out what is happening to our new by-pass highway, SD100. Oh boy. We find out the chosen route from Madison Street to the EROS / I-90 exit. Don’t be expecting to use the new road anytime soon, we have about 5 years of construction to look forward to.

Note to State DOT and City of Sioux Falls, hold these meetings at Carnegie Town Hall so the nerds amongst us can watch them on SIRE or channel 16. It is the least the City of Sioux Falls can do to let us in on some of the plans affecting our lives. It amazes me the amount of money and energy the city spends on feel good press conferences about drunks in the park and people who get punched in the face over defending a taco restaurant employee, but we can’t simply have a meeting at Carnegie and turn on the video camera? How many millions of dollars have we spent remodeling the joint? Why not use the facility? Instead we hold a Hwy meeting in a church.

It is going to be a while before the south route is even being considered. Looks like Walmart may be waiting until the next decade for the road they want. Call a Whaaabulance.

  1. The whole project is running about 15 years behind at this point -thanks for the most part to the foot-dragging Republican’ts in the Federal and state congresses. Just like Lewis and Clark.

  2. The smart cities around the country are investing in public transportation and focusing growth inward. The slow ones keep chasing cheap growth, sprawl, and new highway projects.

  3. just this northern part will be well over 70mil by the time its done. With inflation costs each year, Can you say at least 100 to 120 million by the time its done from Maple to I90, and maybe done by 2022 or later if they don’t get right aways bought cheap. They don’t want to close 121 exit from 90 to hurt yogi bear, the tire place and of course fireworks( can you imagine if the state had to buy businesses to control phasing LOL). I can’t imagine that any phasing will be allowed due to costs. Arrowhead to Maple is on the City I think(they never follow thru with anything, look at 61st to 69th on Cliff, didn’t happen this year did it), the inflation rate is exploding still, except for our wages, no one will tell the truth as long as MMM is mayor. Can you imagine him spooning us all if he has to start the chant of Sioux Falls, build your road, engage the council, we can do this Sioux Falls. We’ll have a nice drive down to the arches on the crappy Sioux. On to Lyon Park to see the drunks, on to the south side to see the houses that are getting broken into lately, and stop at Walmart to live better and save money. Oh crap I hope its not a rerun.

  4. Tom – you do understand the amount of dense housing development that is occurring not just in DT SF, but on the “edges” as well – don’t you?

  5. @rufusx – No, I haven’t noticed any “dense” housing anywhere in SF outside of the core. Could you point out some examples?

Note that average core neighborhoods average from 5,000 to 10,000 people per square mile in density. Average density of new developments since 1980 has been about 2,200 people per square mile.
