Mr. Mayor, what about those two gentlemen who were killed in a car crash right in front of their own church on west 26th?
This is not something new or unique of Sioux Falls. In every community that I have lived in since I was a kid, nothing gets done until someone is hurt or killed.
In my home town in California, many decades ago, there had been discussion about increasing the height of the sidewalks that were installed when underpasses were built. It was not until a semi truck trailer tipped over and crushed to death a group of kids who were walking on the underpass sidewalk was anything done.
That is the way it has been, and always will be, in every community. The intersection on 26th Street where the two men were killed in a crash, was known to be a dangerous intersection but it took two men to die to have anything done.
BTW, the crash did not happen in front of the church. It happened on the intersection that crosses from the nearby HyVee and the parking lot entrance to the apartment building and the church.
What is up now are orange cones to try to discourage people from trying to make a straight shot over 26th Street.
So who is at fault? The planner, the mayor, the council members, or citizens because there was not enough demands made, or maybe we are all responsible?
This was absolutely painful to watch! Takes forever to dance around a question and NEVER gives a real answer, other than to be persistent with your requests…..(like that makes a difference; his pat answer is “trust the process” which means nothing. I have been to some of these meetings and refuse to go to anymore, he won’t give a short and concise answer on anything!
Scott, kudos to you for being able to sit through this and let people see how these meetings “work” or NOT.
