Just what we need is another city of Sioux Falls building being thrown up without any oversight.
The October 19, 2015 City Council meeting is another example of how a steamroller works when it is operated by an out of control driver. Mayhem could be another way of looking at it. Somehow we desperately need this building for our ever growing city control staff but when we ask for information, sorry Charlie go home and leave us alone. Oh and before you leave, drop your credit card over here so we can abuse it.
Change orders, unaudited building construction accounts, invoice fun and more are some of the things we are hearing about. So the administration shows up at Council again to demand the Council abdicate their duties by getting out of the way of the steamroller so it can get through.
It’s hard to believe how large contracts escape city council scrutiny and approvals. There seems to be a rush to get things awarded without competitive bids and a public vote. There’s plenty of grounds for mayoral recall and/or fraud charges. The council doesn’t want to oversee toilet paper purchase but they should be involved when it’s a 50 million dollar project.
