Imagine my surprise (as well as the mayor’s) when councilor Jamison threw the $24 Million number out there last night at the city council meeting (FF to the construction manager at risk discussion towards the end). It was pretty obvious from the Mayor’s reaction (he literally flipped out on councilor Jamison for putting it out there) that Greg may not be to far off the mark, or someone within the city or private development gave him the numbers.

Last night they were discussing hiring the construction manager at risk, and many people have been concerned that we are putting the cart in front of the horse on the project, because still don’t have a ballpark figure, or do we?

So was the mayor mad that Jamison knew the magic number and put it out there ahead of time, or was the mayor mad because Jamison was completely wrong in his estimates?

Folks, there is a reason this ‘number’ has been hidden from us, and it’s not because they are going to build this office building on the cheap.

14 Thoughts on “Will the new City of Sioux Falls administration building cost us $24 million?

  1. And what would you do – throw u[p a cheap tin shed – with a dirt floor? (This would be a nice 3rd world-style solution.)

  2. The post wasn’t about the $24 million dollar pricetag, it was about keeping it secret from the public. I think the first numbers that were thrown around at the beginning of this process was $4-12 million. But like I said, irrelevant. This is an issue of transparency with the administration and building costs. It seems he wants the mortgage payer (tax payers) to close on the building before they know what the building will cost.

Several years ago when the Mayor and the Council started discussing this, it was presented as a joint city-county project.

    What happened to that?

It will cost no less than 30,000,000 with an A&E and a construction manager of risk. I don’t understand why the idiot in charge (mmm) would resort to that similar program that they have on the rest of the f uped projects they have done this far. Why don’t they bid out the A&E firm to design and develope a complete set of plans and specs and let the locals bid on the project. I guess our mmm and the rest of the council clowns want some kick back too. Too bad they didn’t fight harder for the rule of law and neighbors when they sacked twin Eagles with the scum of bentonville

  5. You mad bro?

Maybe it’s just me but I favor putting this project on hold for about 2 years until after council and mayoral elections. No construction manager at risk period. This mayor has messed up everything he’s been involved with. A new more responsible city council composure and city finance director will make this happen right, smoothly, and at reasonable cost.

If someone will start a petition drive forcing an election to approve this project, I’ll stand outside the courthouse in subzero weather asking for signatures.

Part of the petition should be appointing an outside impartial legal firm to draft election language. Either the county commission decides the firm or a list of 10 candidates is presented as a ballot question.

The city attorney openly states his one and only client is the mayor. With strong mayor Home Rule Charter, this is true. We don’t need another confusing Aquatics Center like vote where the city attorney twisted the language such that there was no yes or no. Then, either way you voted there was going to be a 40 million public baths for a private swim club.

I just got my big Badlands Pawn magazine in the mail, and there’s this ad that shows Jamison Co. and all the Dollar Loan Center buildings they’ve built for Mr. Big in town. Are the Jamison’s construction magnates? Easy to find out what a project in town costs in that world.

  9. He’s not looking at Bruce, dummy.

  10. THC you had to be there…

I got the Badlands Pawn shiny pages too. A small building with concerts, a raceway, pawn shop, restaurant, clothing sales, and church services. Must be a worm hole through many dimensions. Can’t you see a covey of multimillionaire doing lines coming up with this epic syfy starship.

And a gun range with liquor. It’s entertaining hearing about it. I see national media attention and a Saturday Night Live comedy skit. And the country thought Dakotans were slow and ‘Fargo-Like’. We’re more white trash than alligator hunters. Yee Ha

They forgot sex toys and a XXX movie theater. The city council approved this discriminating against perverts. It also needs a state lottery casino. One stop demise. Walk in the front middle class and out the back homeless with a criminal record.

A state that doesn’t accept medical marijuana but anything else is fine. Pot growers make good money. Theyd walk in the front rich and out the back poor every single day. City officials should be embarrassed about this. The city went from top 10 to 10 most wanted.
