Like a tumor growing in us, we must announce the wonderfulness of a growing population in our great city;
News conference to announce the City of Sioux Falls’ latest population estimate and discuss the demographics of our growing and vibrant community.
Hide your toilet paper and tissues.
Have you noticed that the planning department puts out their “estimate” every year and then ever 10 years when the census is done they have to readjust their inflated number down every time?
You’d think they’d learn after the same people putting out wrong numbers for the last 20-30 years we know they’re inflating the numbers to exaggerate growth to pat themselves on the back like they had something to do with it.

Hey CI – have you read the article?? EVERY YEAR ” the annual July population estimates are developed by the U.S. Census Bureau.” Not every 10 years. BTW – the Census Bureau’s estimates are always a little off as well (vs. the 10-year direct count).
Hey Rufusx – Have you read the article and my comment?
The census IS done every 10 years. Estimates are done every year.
Of course estimates are a little off. The federal governments are too. But the City’s are always high. Never low. That was my point.
And from the article “On an annual basis, Planning and Building Services develops year-end population estimates” they don’t just use the federal July numbers – just in case that is what you were implying.
You were so anxious to come in here and slam someone’s comment, you didn’t even take the time to read it slowly enough to comprehend it.
Has any one extrapolated out how many more criminal justice cases this continual growth will mean? Cases the County will have to prosecute and fund, while the City laughs all the way to the bank with increased sales tax receipts?
Population numbers can be manipulated. No doubt there’s growth. There’s likely more than presented. However, there should be data for those leaving the city limits for friendlier family oriented suburbs that respect individual liberty and constitutional democracy. Neighboring cities have budget for infrastructure and are not bordering upon bankruptcy.
In nearby cities, when the code enforcer comes to your door it’s a violation and not the mayor’s personal vendetta. There’s no murders or casino robberies. City officials and employees respect your rights and Liberty because they are your neighbors. There’s a reason why a third of city employees live outside Sioux Falls and the mayor lives near Madison.
Yes, there’s strong growth but it’s not just Sioux Falls. It’s southeast South Dakota. Sioux Falls is made to sound explosive because of the arrogant narcissist mayor we can’t wait to replace in 2018.
I get a chuckle about the expansion and growth, and that it is a good place to live. With all of this expansion, will there be more, shootings, stabbings, killings, and robberies?!?! The bigger it gets, the more crime there will be!!
Does this mean increases in crimes like leaving your Siberian Husky outside in the winter?
