While we are called ‘hurtful’ and ‘meddling’ with city business, seems the city’s newspaper agrees with our stance, status quo is working just fine;
We all know that deadlines force decisions. Moving the deadline to get on the agenda to Monday will just delay the decisions and actions required to bring the issue to the council in the first place.
As if to illustrate that point, Hogstad told Argus Leader Media that even if the deadline where changed to the 24-hour system that in most cases the agendas will be available on Friday in most cases.
Which begs the question: Where’s the problem?
There are no problems, that is why after pressuring them, they are considering leaving it as is, which still permits contracts to be presented as a late as 5 PM on Monday.
This is about a bigger issue, some councilors and the administration trying to eliminate public input. They tried once before and got shut down, they must have short memories.
The rumored plan is that Councilor Rolfing plans to take the council chair position after the election (he is assistant now) and make a concerted effort to eliminate public input, or push it to the end of the meeting or at the 4 PM informational.
Not only do I not forsee that happening, I would like to go back to old form of public input in which the mayor and council actually interact with the public when questions are asked. I would also like to see a different council chair elected, several are gunning for councilor Erickson, who can actually complete full sentences when arguing a point . . . I’m just saying.
This of  course will depend on the next council makeup, which looks promising.
Expect to hear at least one announcement next week for someone running for the Northeast district that will be left vacant since Anderson is term-limited.
I also pulled petitions for Minnehaha County Commission as an independent candidate in the November election. I’m not sure if I will submit the petitions or not, just gathering at this point. I have until the end of April to decide.
Two seats are up for grabs, Dick Kelly and Jean Bender. Not sure if either has decided to run. The two top vote getters become commissioners.
The School Board will hold an Election to fill two vacancies when the terms of Kent Alberty and Carly Reiter expire in July. The School District’s annual Election will be held in conjunction with the City of Sioux Falls Municipal Election April 12, 2016 from 7:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. I haven’t heard of any challengers at this point.
UPDATE: I was told today that the Pavilion is NOT seeking to put Michelle in a higher position, in fact, she recently stepped down a notch. I am told that the Pavilion will be doing a national search for a full-time president so that the current one can step down also.
Or for that matter a new full-time one?
I haven’t posted awhile about the Big Purple Building, ever since I had a delightful night there seeing Ms. Cash.
But some foot soldiers have been throwing some names out there, one that has been popping up quite a bit is the current marketing director Michelle Wellman. Michelle moved here from the East Coast with her Sanford Dr. Husband.
After listening to Mike’s temper tantrums this week, especially about monitoring these numbers like a hawk, and the lies from his finance office, his hypocrisy is beginning to show.
His comments yesterday about audits and the CVB Bid tax weren’t even close to reality. He wants to audit a $2.9 million dollar tax so he can get a million of it for what? Cheerleading & Dart tournaments?
This is were his hypocrisy kicks in. He wants to audit such a minute amount of money (that is apparently working as it should) but hasn’t let the public see any expenses or audits when it comes to the Events Center. Finance Director Tracy Turbak even admitted on Tuesday that he doesn’t even know if he has change order files but knows what the subcontractors were paid, maybe. How is that? You don’t know what the change orders are, and you have no idea how much money Mortenson made, but he can get you that information, as long as the Argus wasn’t suing for it.
I agree with you Mayor Huether, let’s audit the CVB, and let’s release that audit the same day as the EC building expense and siding settlement audits get released. We could throw one big audit party. I’ll drive the black Mariah.
But all this audit and tax talk has also got me thinking about the mayor’s possible opposition to the car rental fees for the development foundation. While we may both agree on this, I have a feeling the Mayor opposes it for two reasons. First off because he wants it all for the city and secondly he was pretty much left out of the negotiations when it came to Foundation Park and the GOED. As the rumor goes, “Foundation Park is moving forward in spite of Mayor Huether”.
Seems there is a lot of things that are moving forward these days ‘in spite’ of Mayor Huether
