“Oh My Goodness!” How dare the public shows up to a public meeting

The public gets so few times when they can actually see what Sioux Falls government is doing so when an invitation to witness something, some people actually show up. What idiots we are to really believe the contents of an invitation or announcement is sincere. Three Sioux Falls citizens decided to show up on March 22, 2016 for a public walk through of the Spellerberg indoor pool (one of them is a council candidate). What fools to think it would actually happen.

Like everything else this administration seems to do and promise, it is another lie or half-truth. How can anyone believe anything sent out by city hall except for our tax increase notices. BTW, how did you like your tax increase this year? Thank the building scams this administration seems to revel in for the unaudited and closed projects since 2010.

The indoor pool is just another promise to very special people and when everyday interested citizens show up to the announced meetings, they are closed to the public again. How can anyone trust Sioux Falls city hall?

The moment Cameraman Bruce showed up with a camera running you hear an upset Kendra Siemonsma and see concerned city staff. They do not want to be audited or questioned by the public. Tracy Turbak and Kendra showed it the day before when they through the hissy fits when we showed up to hear about the $25,000,000.00 admin building boondoggle. Just checkout our Meddling kids videos.

Just remember what it means when this administration says these projects are the most transparent in city history. It means it is transparently obvious we are not allowed to know anything.

Elitist Sioux Falls City Council candidate, John Paulson rears his hissy-fit head

Just because you used to work for a healthcare provider, doesn’t mean you can call the whaabulance whenever you want.

I knew it would only be a matter of time before one of the council candidates would have a public hissy fit over much to do about nothing, just never expected it to be John Paulson. I mean, this is the candidate who has been attending council meetings lately and usually uses the time to take naps. He must be getting public service advice from De Knudson (ironically he probably is).

Today the CVB had a membership meeting(?). CVB director Teri Ellis Schmidt invited council candidate Theresa Stehly to attend and gave her permission to speak during public input towards the end of the meeting. Theresa was unaware if there would be other candidates there, but appreciated the opportunity given to her by Teri to speak about her candidacy. John Paulson was the only other candidate to show.

Theresa went up at public input, introduced herself, talked about her community service (pushing for boulevard ordinance changes – snowgates), her endorsement from Kermit and his support of the CVB, etc. No bomb throwing of any kind.

Then John Paulson stands up and says, “That was out of line. I have nothing to say after that.”

She must have woken him up from his nap talking about actual policy and issues.

Guess what Mayor Huether is talking about in this quote

Apocalypse now OR later?

“We have followed the city council’s game plan on this project for a full year and are on the 1-yard line,” said Huether. “I can’t believe that anyone would want to quit the team now, or worse yet, want some other players to step in, in hopes to carry it over the goal line. Sioux Falls wants leadership that plays to the bitter end and plays to win.”

WOW! Sounds dire. What is our fearless (except when it comes to death) leader talking about?

Fixing the 13th most polluted waterway in the U.S.? Nope.

Paying all residents of Sioux Falls a living wage (including city employees)? Nope.

Reducing STDs in the community, and while we are at it, violent crime? Nope.

Filling every pot hole in this town? Nope.

Making sure we become the NCAA tournament capital of the world? He wishes.

Bringing transparency to government? BAHAHAHAHA.

Sorry, folks, you lost at them all. He is talking about a building that city employees may or may not need. A project that could easily be put on hold (thats all the council is asking) for a few more months to a year.

Something that could easily be fixed by terminating one employee, as one South DaCola foot soldier pointed out to me tonight,

“If there is no project, there is no need for a project manager. Fire her and move the engineers out of the basement into her (large) office. Problem solved.”

Probably not that easy, but worth the discussion. Of course, that would mean firing a certain Argus employee who has nothing better to write about to.

After Tracy and I got our pouty pants on, there was still a meeting

Remember in our Part 1 we experienced Tracy Turbak throwing a hissy fit followed by Sue, Kendra and the staffer? Each running from the room because we showed up with the camera? Well part 2 left us with just Council Chair Kenny Anderson, council member Rick Kiley, ace Argus Leader reporter Joe Sneve with Cameraman Bruce to sort out the mess they were left with.

Just like everything else this administration seems to do, they cut and run when the going is a challenge.

Joe Sneve did a great job asking questions to the two somewhat stunned council members who tried to carry on with the message they wanted to present.

We thank them for the job they did. It’s a shame the city staff was such sissies and had to run away instead of answering any questions. Oh that’s right, the Sioux Falls city’s chief marketing officer didn’t give them a script to follow. We find it hard to keep for them to keep their stories straight when there are cameras around.

We bring our cameras because we have to constantly compare each story given against the last one we heard.

So we ask, who are the kids who run the asylum in this example? These four sat in a room like adults and we at southdacola thank them.

Sioux Falls City Council Candidate, Stehly, garners Staggers endorsement

Okay, no big surprise;

A City Council candidate is getting campaign support from the official she hopes to succeed.

City Councilman Kermit Staggers opted not to seek re-election for the at-large seat he’s held since 2012 due to a series of health issues that have plagued him of late. But the veteran policymaker isn’t done trying to influence city politics.

Community activist Theresa Stehly, one of three vying for Staggers’ open seat, this week sent out mailers to 10,000 households showcasing the endorsement her candidacy has received from Staggers, a veteran policymaker who’s spent decades in public office, including 12 years on the Sioux Falls City Council.

“I know (Stehly) is a person of real integrity, hard-working and wants to do the best thing she can for the citizens of Sioux Falls,” Staggers said Tuesday.

Staggers worked with Stehly in the lead up to the 2014 vote when residents mandated the use of snow gates. Stehly said she and Staggers have been allies for more than 10 years.

“Kermit has been one of the few elected officials I’ve ever known who’s been able to keep the hooks of special interest out of his skin,” she said.

Theresa was also the exclusive speaker today at a meeting of the Sioux Falls Retired Teachers Association, about 40 teachers were in attendance.
