Is this increased tax to help pay for the new administration building that the mayor wants, and that quickly approved before the new council members were elected?
triple m is going to have his hands full with her!
I have always suspected Mad Man Mike was a sexist. I feel for sure he is a closet racist observing how he has dealt with and ignored the Native American Community in Sioux Falls. I hope he treats her with the dignity and respect that she deserves. She isn’t all pompous and just wants to do what’s right for the folks in town. I believe she will be an advocate for the poor, the minorities as well as others in need. A much needed thing in Sioux Falls after the Heuther Regime has sunk its hooks in the dirt. Some people can’t really afford the rising cost of things to pay for Mike’s spending habits. Simple plan for Mikey, don’t spend more that the city can take in and there will be no debt. Don’t punish the public with your apparent spending addiction. Thanks Theresa!
Show us why a water increase is required. Do this and guarantee the increase will be for water only. I’m really tired of building country club entertainment and golf course hotels with money diverted from infrastructure budget.
This kind of press release and position supporting the citizens is exactly why I voted for her.
I think all those huge raises have gone to Cotter’s head. He’s lost touch with what the most people in Sioux Falls actually make, and it’s not $180,000 per year.
I got a 2% raise last year, and a 2% raise this year. So with my health insurance cost increases, increases in grocery costs, and my utility cost increases, the net effect was no raise at all.
Wow. Just seen last nites ksfy water show. Talk about a load of crap. If we did not know any better, cotter would have us believing Theresa is yelling the sky is falling because rates are only going up 55 cents. Wrong, on so many levels. Rates are going up for the average user 9 dollars a month over the next 3 years. He failed to mention the other two legs of the 3 legged water bill. One reason they give.
Cash reserves will be used to smooth customer rates. Just ehat does that mean? Right now Joe Sixpack pays $3.73 per ccf of sewer waste. Commercial entities pay $4.40 per ccf. Is that what that means? I wonder how many thousands of ccf’s the denny generates at a concert? Sure would be nice if they could be billed the same as joe per ccf. Another question. They claim to need more money for projects like providing sewr and water for Prairie Meadows residents when they are annexed. Those 90 residents will pay, on average, 40 to 50 thousand for the privilege of city water. Go figure!?!?!
It’s sad to see the news covering this using the city’s skewed math and reporters supporting it on their personal twitter feeds when the mayor and his administration could do so many other things to be more responsible with money first.
1. Stop giving the department heads ridiculous double digit raises and bring them back in line with the rest of the world.
2. Remodel existing facilities instead of building new for the administration building. think like a public official instead of a rich, private-sector elitist. Think Chevy, not BMW.
3. Stop going deeper in debt for entertainment venues and pools, telling us how much money we have and that the piggy bank is full, and then raising taxes and fees for almost everything the city has control over.
