I guess during a Friday meeting the mayor said something similar to this;

Mike wants citizens with grievances to give city employees a chance to fix their problems before bringing them to light at public input during the city council meetings. He also said his office and other departments respond to complaints within 24 hours.

Okay, I think I just got carpet burns I was laughing so hard. But seriously? What meetings has he been going to over the past 6 years? The Red Hat society?

The one thing I have noticed about public input (besides my pointed rants) is that most citizens complain during that time period as a last resort. Take the landlords that had their laundry room destroyed by the SWAT team, or recently the missing parking lot at the Vietnamese restaurant. Most citizens don’t want to come to public input, it is intimidating, and if you sit in the back row, you may just get hit in the head by a flailing elbow. Most use it, because they have tried all other avenues to solve a problem with the city.

Maybe the mayor is coming around. But I am not holding my breath.

  1. Public input has become lengthy.

    We have problems but some things are common sense. You can’t take a gun into the events center. However, wear a hard hat and steel toe boots. It could implode at any time due to the poor design and inferior materials.

    It takes nerve but it’s necessary you appear because nobody comes to work at city hall. Walk through city personnel sometime. Lots of crickets but no people.

    Bring cash. If you disagree with the mayor, you’ll need it for bail. He’s known for jailing dissenters. The county (not the city) pays for the jail so it happens often.

    Last but not least, the council has strict orders not to respond to citizens. They represent you but they’re gagged and cuffed.

  2. Is this a picture of the defendant at a criminal trial? My bad, it’s Mayor Mike but use this later when pictures are not allowed in the court room.

  3. Yes, give city employees a chance to fix your problem, so you can be told they don’t have $200 worth of spray paint in their multimillion dollar budget so you have to go out and fix it yourself.

    Avoid public input so the public won’t know how many complaints there actually are.

    Avoid public input so Mike can avoid the public. Some public servant.

  4. No, that is not a picture of mmm in a court room. That could be him waiting for a colonoscopy that cannot be rescheduled, however.
