I hope to have video up by tomorrow. You can read the ethics opinion request DOC: policegifts
The SF Police Department has a policy against receiving gifts (consumables, such as food) unless it is consumed on premesis (explains how they can stuff their faces at Avera).
The Ethics commission ruled they should return the gift cards they received from two local churches in appreciation for their service. While this may sound harsh, I agree with the ethics commission. I don’t think they should receive any monetary gifts. They get a paycheck for what they do, if that is not enough, they should talk to their union rep.
I hope to have more details soon.
There’s worse. They frequently shake down pawn shops. City judicial ordinance doesn’t allow you to sue the city. It’s not Sioux Falls. It’s North Korea.
let them keep them.
And keep drug lord bribes too. In Jamaica the population accepts gangs as police. Neighborhoods have no robbery, rape, or murder. The vigilante force is accepted while police are not. Evenings, gangs drag junk car barriers to block out police. Days, police call ahead so they can peacefully do a mock raid for international media.
I favor a city/county government with sheriff deputies instead of police. Calling the police has become like using a service advertised on Craigslist. It’s unprofessional, inferior, and you get charged before the work is done.
What, no more drive thru chicken from Los Pollos Hermanos?
They can accept consumables as gifts as long as they consume on premesis.
I agree with the decision also.
