Not a lot of love for our senior senator;
Senator John Thune;Â My bill would eliminate the taxes you’ll owe on your winnings when you get home
Jeff;Â Wow, douchiest congratulations ever. Like getting socks for Christmas.
Jackie;Â I’ve never felt like someone’s given me a toothbrush on Halloween more, not even when it’s actually happened.
Christopher;Â Sitting US Senator tries his hand at mansplaining. Goes poorly.
Karl;Â tell her how your party has been working hard for the last 25 years to make sure her whole family can’t vote.
Once again we are blind in South Dakota to the embarrassing things John does in the name of our state. He should be offering us a citizen arrest of his fellow senator over EB-5.
Beyond the national repudiation that the Senator is obviously receiving for this Twitter comment, this comment also speaks to the continual realities and orchestration of the Senators own political image at the expense of substantive policy discussions.
I am only surprised that he did not hold this comment back until the US Olympic Basketball Team won the gold, but since their supremacy is in question this year, I guess his political staff thought it best to press on (like a true player) sooner than later with this comment.
I might add, the Senator’s comment hear speaks not only to the classic perennial Republican line about taxes, but it also furthers the myth and image of sports and sporting events which have consistently over the years revolved around and have perpetuated his political image thanks to his political handlers and his own athletic capabilities.
Like with the media, which increasingly spends to much time on the weather instead of investigative reporting, the citizens or the voters in this case with the Senator should be leery of politicians who are always trying to promote their image and tie it to popular events versus the promotion, discussion, and debate of the real and true substantive issues of our time.
Come on really? You get your news from Raw Story? A story that hand picked a handful of partisan tweets and pretended it was journalism. Explains a lot about you Scott. So you think our Olympians should have to pay up to $9900 in taxes on each medal they win? http://www.cnbc.com/2016/08/15/uncle-sam-goes-for-gold-too-up-to-9900-per-olympic-gold-meda.html
All Raw Story was doing was re-printing tweets, not sure how that is a slant. As for tax breaks, sure, I don’t have an issue with that (though they will all make millions in endorsements, and have to pay taxes on that), I think the bigger point is Thune is always horsing around with ‘feel good’ BS instead actually accomplishing anything. Name one piece of major legislation Thune has ever gotten passed that actually helps the average citizen.
For the most part, I would agree with you. But I would say I think the same question could be asked of former two term Senator Clinton. It has been stated that in 8 years her largest accomplishment was to get a couple of buildings re-named. But then she was quite busy recovering from being ‘flat broke’. Brokering deals do take a fair amount of time. Her efforts were not in vain as the several deals seem to have come together pretty well in the form of their Clinton Foundation.
