2016

Before I was a blogger, I was a punkrocker . . . kinda

Here is a link to the Sneakies last album, redux. (1997)

You may know one of the lead guitarists, Jesse Christen, blues master and South Dakota’s best electric guitar player.

I met Jesse and Matt ‘Sideshow’ Staab at Your House for Coffee. I wanted to hang with the punk rock kids, they weren’t really punk, just stinky, which was fine with me.

I was the ‘unofficial’ roadie, the only member who didn’t play an instrument, but drank plenty of beer with them. Still can’t believe this was almost 20 years ago.

Still get chills up my back when I hear the licks and Bill’s drumming. I can’t tell you the number of nights that ended in disaster, hangovers and black eyes. The Sneakies were Sioux Falls original Punkrock band.

Public Chalkboards in Sioux Falls?

At the informational meeting today, councilor Christine Erickson brought back some great ideas from her trip to the National Municipal League of Cities conference.

One of them was to create a public chalkboard (in downtown, high traffic areas). The above examples are in San Antonio and New York City.

I think it is a great idea, and hope this is something we can duplicate throughout our city.

Why did the Minnehaha County Commission appoint the same chair 3 years in a row?

I have mixed views on term limits, but when it comes to peers essentially serving in similar duties, why not pass the buck around?

The Minnehaha County Commission conducted its first official meeting of the year on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Commissioner Cindy Heiberger was elected to serve as Chairman of the County Commission.

I find this odd, for a couple of reasons.

• I would think Cindy would want a break after 2 years.

• Jeff Barth was ALSO nominated by Dick Kelly, and seconded by Jeff.

Is Cindy’s paranoia so strong when it comes to Barth as chair (Democrat) she is willing to do a job she may be tired of for another year?

Party pride can get the best of us. Glad I am an Indy.

Tuthill shooting case now ‘Inactive’

I was interviewed today by KSFY about the Tuthill shooting incident;

Blogger Scott Ehrisman said “it still concerns a lot of people that if in fact there was someone there, that after a year, there’s a person who supposedly pulled a gun, on one of our police officers and is free, and never was caught.”

To my surprise, the very question I have been asking was answered;

The scene at Tuthill Park on Tuesday afternoon is quiet, much like the case of an officer involved shooting at the park. According to Sioux Falls Police Chief Matt Burns, that case is now inactive.

So when was the Police Chief going to officially let the public know they were (unofficially) burying the case?

Funny how these things go.
