South DaCola

South DaCola 2016 year in review (Part III)

Lots of Parking, don’t run over a cone.

Let’s wrap of 2016, because I am already over it;

• After IM 22 passes, Kristi Noem freaks out and decides to tell us just days after she was elected to congress that she is running for governor. She really just needed to transfer her warchest.

• The state theater still isn’t finished. I’m sure I will be writing this same thing next year, and the year after that and the . . .

• The state’s top budget analyst was let go. We are not told why, but the governor reassures us there is no need for an ethics commission in state government.

• The mayor tells B-N-B on his radio show he sympathizes with Donald Trump on the way the media treats him. A university study determined that Hillary lied about 35% of the time on the campaign stump, Trump lied 70% of the time. We all have our idols I guess.

• The city council amends the city smoking ban. Just one of many proposals by the administration that will fail this coming year.

• During a Downtown design standards meeting, a developer who had interest in the Copper Lounge building said he didn’t believe DT needed standards and that developer should be able to do what they want. A few days later, the Copper Lounge building collapsed.

• The Sioux Falls planning department tries to annex a lone house next to a barn and farm yard. The deferral is set for Tuesday night.

• Sales tax revenues in Sioux Falls had the lowest returns in years. But hey, we are building like a son-no-bitch.

There you have it, hopefully 2017 will be more interesting.
